A Popup Interview with Blackadaisical
[ Artist Website ] | [ Buy Our CD ]
CK: How would you categorize your overall music style?
Blackadaisical: Gothic rock-music for the dead-why should the living have all the fun.But really categories are crap. There should only be 2 types of music-stuff an individual likes and stuff they dont.
CK: If your band could open for a headlining act, who would it be and why?
Blackadaisical: The obvious choice is Alice Cooper, but it would be fun to open for a squeeky clean pop act-and then let the blood run freely(ha ha)
CK: Who is your favorite unsigned Band?
Blackadaisical: At the moment Dolcet Tones. They have great songs and really rock.
CK: Do you have a page on the web with your concert places and times? If so where?
Blackadaisical: Not at the moment.
CK: What you feel is the most important thing about your music?
Blackadaisical: To have fun with it.And to bring despair to those who would put us and people like us down.
CK: How do you transport your equipment to the gig?
Blackadaisical: We have these things with wheels that are powered by magical fluid from the earth.
CK: Are there any established artists with whom you would like to collaborate?
Blackadaisical: Not really-it sounds like hard work-but working with Cardiacs might be fun.
CK: Can you name a few of you favorite places on the web for band promotions?
Blackadaisical: World Sings.com and Reverbnation
CK: You have been asked to travel outside the US or your home country for a good cause, do you go?
Blackadaisical: It would have to be a really good cause like 'more rights for the dead'or 'stop war-kill the politicians'
CK: Who are your biggest influences?
Blackadaisical: Alice Cooper (the Love it to Death album started the whole goth thing.Cardiacs(madness personified).1970's british punk which taught us you dont need to be a brilliant musician to play in a band.
CK: Let us say that you have been just signed by a major label and they say time to move 2500 miles. Now what, would you be able to move?
Blackadaisical: No.We would never leave our lovely damp cellar-nor would we ever sign to a major label.
CK: What do you like most about being an INDE artist?
Blackadaisical: Exactly that!Being indie should mean you're answerable to no-one.
CK: Did you get your photos done professionally? By Whom?
Blackadaisical: We dont have any photos. Our images dont show up (we're dead remember?)
CK: If you wanted to make your own genre name, what would it be?
Blackadaisical: Dead rock
CK: What are your plans for the future with your band?
Blackadaisical: To rid the world of music which takes itself too seriously and scare the living daylights out of people with no sense of humour.
CK: Introduce the members in the band:
Blackadaisical: One of the things you get when you join this band are a guarantee of anonimity(no-one wants to take the blame lol)
CK: Do you do any recording on your own?
Blackadaisical: Yes,most of it.The rest of the band are lazy, good for nothing, workshy deadheads.I do all the work and take all the blame and do they care (rant, rant)
CK: How big of an impact do you think the underground, indie scene has on the current pop culture?
Blackadaisical: A huge impact. It's where all the best music an fashion etc comes from. The problems start when big companies water stuff down for the mass market to make more money, like when they turned punk into new wave. The real punks went back to the underground and were much better for it.
CK: Are you looking to get a record deal? Why?
Blackadaisical: Absolutely not!Why should we give outsiders a say in what we do?
CK: If you are a band and have a concert schedule, would you like some extra free promotion? Visit Free Band Promotion
Blackadaisical: We have no concerts planned at the moment.
CK: How did you/all learn to play, self or school?
Blackadaisical: We are all self-taught.Its the only way to do it.If you learn at school they're trying to brainwash your musical taste. Its essential that everyone has control over their own creativity
CK: What are your MySpace and PureVolume websites?
Blackadaisical:
CK: What is your favorite song on your current album?
Blackadaisical: Murder Bell
CK: My favorite drum kits are made by Drum Workshop (DW), what is yours?
Blackadaisical: I dont have one.
CK: Have you ever paid for advertising for the band?
Blackadaisical: We try never to pay for ANYTHING.
CK: What do you think of our little interview system?
Blackadaisical: Good stuff.Gives bands who normally might not get the chance to air their views just that.In our case its also safer for the journalist lol
CK: What genre(s) would you say your music is under?
Blackadaisical: If it has to be under one then I suppose its Gothic Rock.
CK: Describe your typical stage show performance. Give us a hint into what we might expect to see are your show.
Blackadaisical: Lots of people with blood streaming from their ears and other orifices (yuk).Musically, very loud, raw and heavy.Visually-changes according to how we feel on the night.
CK: Longest running concert schedule?
Blackadaisical: Concerts last until we've converted the very last member of the crowd to our cause-usually 1.5/2 hours (the quicker they agree with us-the quicker the pain stops lol)
CK: How experienced are you or the band on the stage?
Blackadaisical: Most of us startd in the late 1970's with the punk explosion.
CK: What is important to you about the music?
Blackadaisical: That we have fun with it,and that others have fun with it- even if only to have fun hating us.
CK: What would you like to change about your city's local music scene?
Blackadaisical: The usual, more/better venues that pay bands enough so that it doesnt cost the band money to play.
CK: Are you signed to an indie label?
Blackadaisical: No.
CK: How long does it take for an average song to go from a musical idea to a recordable song?
Blackadaisical: It depends how we're feeling some take only 5 days, some ('she only dies'for example)take almost 25 years( and still aren't right lol)
CK: Name and describe your most memorable gig.
Blackadaisical: The funniest was when a venue tried to charge our lead guitarist and drummer to get in.Even when they knew who they were.Needless to say we didnt play and they had to give a lot of people their money back.So I guess it wasnt really a gig but the fire was quite interesting (a lot of people were very upset)
CK: Describe your most important gig and what made it so important.
Blackadaisical: Our first EVER gig in 1978 at a birthday party. Its what got us hooked on being in a band.Up until then we were happy just jamming on our own.
CK: When did you first start singing, what made you choose music?
Blackadaisical: I will not admit to the singing lol.As for music-it chose me-I asked for a guitar when I was 4years old - and got given a tennis racket to play.Eventually I got a real guitar although there are some who wish I'd stayed with the tennis racket.
CK: Last stage gig you did:
Blackadaisical: Too long ago,we really are thinking of doing something about that (honest)
CK: Do you have a street or e-team system in place? Want one for your website?
Blackadaisical: No.
CK: So, tell me..what exactly, motivates you, the artist to write songs?
Blackadaisical: Its not a question of motivation.Simply as and when an idea comes.Once its there it nags me until I do something about it - even if its just to write it down and then burn it.
