How big of an impact do you think the underground, indie scene has on the current pop culture?

Black Cortez:

It has a big effect cause that is where it all starts. Without the underground you wont have any main stream at all. The underground is like the heart of it all.


VR:

Do you do any recording on your own?

Black Cortez:

I do alot of it on my own. Being Im independant I write all my songs and do the majority of the production. I also got tracks that have been produced by my man 20/20 Vision


VR:

What's your favorite Kellogg's cereal?

Black Cortez:

heh, Twisitin up the questions hu... I like Frosted Flakes.


VR:

Where do you think this MP3 business is going?

Black Cortez:

I really dont know. Its gonna be a big part of music in the future for sure. With all these artist online and this Napster controversy I see it getting bigger... but you never know cause they said radio was gonna kill the music industry but it didnt as we can see. Mp3s probably gonna be the next major promotion tool from what Im seeing so far.


VR:

Where do you want to be a year from now personally?

Black Cortez:

A year from now... Hopefully we'll (P.F.K. Records) have a major distribution deal.

New York is just wild. You got so many diffrent sections on diffrent vibes. Its really that city you wanna be, na mean.

What is your favorite song on the radio?

Black Cortez:

Right now its basicly anything by X (D.M.X.) or Jigga. Them dudes is still on the same vibe as when they first started. Thats what I like.

What do you like most about being an INDE artist?

Black Cortez:

Not answering to anybody. Doing what I want how I want.

Do you feel that "underground" is just a marketing term like anything else?

Black Cortez:

Na, Underground is a starting point for artist.

If each of your band mates were an animal what would they be?

Black Cortez:

Id be the lion simply cause Im feirce and always looking out for shit. Plus Im a leo

Most people will never know what it feels like to be on stage in front of a crowd, explain to them that feeling:

Black Cortez:

Being on stage is the shit. In front of all them people seeing how they just bounce to your shit, how they feeling you. Thats it right there.


VR:

Black Cortez:

This is life (Make it hot)... That joint was just a journey to me. From how I went from a child to a man. Explaining how I grew and all the problems I went through.

Has the internet really been helpful to your promotion?

Black Cortez:

Yeah, the net helped like a bitch. Without this net shit I wouldnt have been able to get my music heard by as many people.

Black Cortez:

Keep a look out for me cus there aint no stopping. You got the hottest under your nose and dont even know it.

Have you ever paid for advertising for the band?

Black Cortez:

Na.
