CK:

So, tell me..what exactly, motivates you, the artist to write songs?

Behind The Sun:

Everyday occurances, anecdotes or deeper things like love, death or politics.

CK:

Where do you practice as a band and how often?

Behind The Sun:

We practice at our drummers house, no less than once a week.

CK:

What made you want to pursue songwriting?

Behind The Sun:

Just having a song that people can relate to is the hardest thing. To acheive that would be enormous. Music plays a small part in changing the world, so why not try?

CK:

If your band could open for a headlining act, who would it be and why?

Behind The Sun:

Honestly, the band has an incredible variety of influences, so just about anybody would be perfect. We just want our music to be heard.

CK:

Who are your biggest influences?

Behind The Sun:

Tool, A Perfect Circle, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Primus, Vomitron, Neil Young, Stabilo Boss, amoung countless others.

CK:

Let us say that you have been just signed by a major label and they say time to move 2500 miles. Now what, would you be able to move?

Behind The Sun:

Not right now. With school, we're all a bit tied up. We have a good thing going for ourselves eductionally, and would wait until that over to make any serious obligations.

CK:

How big of an impact do you think the underground, indie scene has on the current pop culture?

Behind The Sun:

The underground, indie scene is just what its described as. Underground. Teenagers and young adultd are usually the only fans of the music, and the only chance these artists have of being signed, is if somebody big picks up on the music somehow or another.

CK:

Introduce the members in the band:

Behind The Sun:

Josh Myers plays all the percussion. David Hills plays his bass and Tenor Sax. David Schambach rips it up on his guitar. Anthony Catalano lays down some funky rhythm guitar, and some bass when Dave's on sax.

CK:

How do you transport your equipment to the gig?

Behind The Sun:

Trucks, cars. We don't have huge vehicles or dedicated transport.

CK:

Do you feel that "underground" is just a marketing term like anything else?

Behind The Sun:

Somewhat. It just means it's popular with the "un-popular" croud. It means the band hasn't hit it big in a big way. There's nothing wrong with that, tons of underground artists have been signed in the past.

CK:

What you feel is the most important thing about your music?

Behind The Sun:

The fact that we love doing it, and that others can get a bit higher listening to it. When you make somebody feel good, you've done right.

CK:

What is your favorite local venue?

Behind The Sun:

Definately 32 Bleu. Right now the band's goal is to get a gig there.

CK:

Tell us about your worst gig and why it was so bad.

Behind The Sun:

Our worst gig would've been one we had scheduled, then had to cancel at the last minute becuase of a band emergency. When you can't deliver at all - that's the worst case scenario.

CK:

How long does it take for an average song to go from a musical idea to a recordable song?

Behind The Sun:

Maybe 2 practices. The recording process takes longer than the writing process becuase we go back through and return to the writing process as we come up with new ideas and add-ons for the tune.

CK:

How experienced are you or the band on the stage?

Behind The Sun:

Not very, but we've all played in front of crowds individually and feel that gigs provide the greatest satisfaction.

CK:

What would you like to change about your city's local music scene?

Behind The Sun:

It's too steriotypical. Most people listen to only what is popular, and shift as the music industry does.

CK:

How many members in the band write music?

Behind The Sun:

Everybody. We all play a key part in every song.

CK:

Name and describe your most memorable gig.

Behind The Sun:

It was unbelievable. I don't even think i could describe the feeling. It was just a patio party, but the way the band clicked that night is forever memorable.

CK:

Are you looking to get a record deal? Why?

Behind The Sun:

Eh. Either way. We got into music to have fun and make friends. We also want to make a difference in the world, and to do that you have to be well-known, and that's where the record deal would come in.

CK:

Tell us about your website:

Behind The Sun:

It's very simplistic and straight to the point. We have music there, gig information, a biography and much more. Check it out.

CK:

If you could put on a show anywhere were would it be?

Behind The Sun:

32 Bleu, as I mentioned earlier.

CK:

Has the internet really been helpful to your promotion?

Behind The Sun:

Since our site has been up, we've been able to give everybody with internet access a chance to know about us. We've been offered gigs and word has spread much faster than it would've without the site.

CK:

What do you like most about being an INDE artist?

Behind The Sun:

The promotion it would give us.

CK:

What genre(s) would you say your music is under?

Behind The Sun:

We have tunes from rock to blues to borderline funk. But if we had to classify it, it'd be under general "Rock".

CK:

Are there any established artists with whom you would like to collaborate?

Behind The Sun:

Sure, anybody with that sort of experience could give us valuable input and inside info. Anybody would do.

CK:

Do you do any recording on your own?

Behind The Sun:

All recording is done by us. All mixing, engineering and production as well.

CK:

Have you ever paid for advertising for the band?

Behind The Sun:

The site is a form of advertisment, and we pay for that. So, Yes.

CK:

How did you/all learn to play, self or school?

Behind The Sun:

All of us took lessons at one point or another, but only for awhile. Since then, we've pushed ourselves farther and farther on our own and with the help of fellow band members and musicians.

CK:

What are your plans for the future with your band?

Behind The Sun:

Some of us see this as a future oppurtunity, but college and other things tear us away. The band will eventually part, but not before we make our music heard.

CK:

What is important to you about the music?

Behind The Sun:

The fact that the creative process is all done by us. The freedom and expression of which we can use is phenomenal.

CK:

What makes you and your band unique?

Behind The Sun:

We play a huge variety of genres and are very flexible and incredible at jamming. Also, becuase of limited budgets, we've used all sorts of techniques to make our amps and equipment "better", giving us a whole new sound - literally.

CK:

Do you have a street or e-team system in place? Want one for your website?

Behind The Sun:

At the moment, we have a couple of dedicated fans giving our website out to the public. But that is nothing. We'd like people from all over the world to help us out anyway they could. Yes, one for our website would be great.

CK:

Describe your typical stage show performance. Give us a hint into what we might expect to see are your show.

Behind The Sun:

You'd see the band, dressed casually, our rag-tag high perfromance gear, and the most energetic performance you'd expect from a group of young adults.

CK:

Most people will never know what it feels like to be on stage in front of a crowd, explain to them that feeling:

Behind The Sun:

It's an incredible feeling, the crowd feeds off your music and you can drive them higher and higher with each additional effort. Amazing feeling.

CK:

If you could talk to anyone in the music business, who would it be?

Behind The Sun:

I would talk to the president of a major record label. I'd ask them about what it'd take and get some honest answers about what they run business like.

CK:

Who is your favorite unsigned Band?

Behind The Sun:

Stabilo Boss, a Canadian band out of Vancouver, B.C.

CK:

When did you first start singing, what made you choose music?

Behind The Sun:

I always sang, whether it was along with a song on the radio or in the shower. When iI took up an instrument it gave me the power to harness the singing and apply it even more.

CK:

Give us a run down of your audio equipment:

Behind The Sun:

The drummer uses a standard Premier kit with all Sabian cymbals. The bassist uses a Peavey TKO hooked ins eries with a smaller amp, to bring out his tighter, more vibrant highs. One guitarist uses a f=fender Hot Rod Deluxe linked with a Peavey head from the '70's running a blues baby cabinet. The other guitarist uses a Fender Hot Rod DeVille, with an output into a small Ibanez practice amp, which is linked to Two 15" home stereo speakers. Also, the bassist and guitarists use may effects to acheive their sound.

CK:

What is your favorite song on your current album?

Behind The Sun:

The band's favorite song would definately have to be "My Place". Originally an unplugged song, we decided to kick it up a notch just for fun, and it turned out beating all our expectations.

CK:

Can you name a few of you favorite places on the web for band promotions?

Behind The Sun:

Garageband.com, purevolume are great places for music hosting. But i must recommend yahoo for making available free websites, the best way to promote a band.
