A Popup Interview with Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA
[ Artist Website ] | [ Buy Our CD ]
CK: Who is your favorite unsigned Band?
Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA: There are so many professional jazz artists who are not signed with major labels, so it is difficult to name just one! If I had to choose, I'd probably start with Kansas City area artists: http://www.jazzkc.org [see artist links page]
CK: If you could put on a show anywhere were would it be?
Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA: Somewhere warm (including indoor concert and jazz venues), before an audience of people who were into the music.
CK: Are there any established artists with whom you would like to collaborate?
Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA: I'd really like to have the opportunity to perform with some of the great pianists like: Andrew Hill, Herbie Hancock, etc.
CK: Tell us about your website:
Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA: It is basically the portal to all of my professional activities as a musician, composer, and IAJE artist/clinician. Visitors can even hear samples of my music and buy recordings there as well. It is a relatively huge site, but considering how long I've been doing music, that is probably understandable. So, it takes most people several visits to see everything I have published there...
CK: Who are your biggest influences?
Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA: John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Dexter Gordon, Ahmad Alaadeen, and many classical players and composers too numerous to mention.
CK: How do you transport your equipment to the gig?
Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA: Since I play woodwinds, my logistics in this regard are relatively minimal...
CK: Tell us about your worst gig and why it was so bad.
Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA: There have been a couple actually, but the common denominator that makes a gig "bad" for me is poor planning of the logistics to put on a live performance.
CK: How many members in the band write music?
Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA: I lead my own jazz quartet at this time and therefore, the group performs mostly my original music and arrangements.
CK: When did you first start singing, what made you choose music?
Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA: I don't sing at all, that's why I play an instrument (smiles). However, I knew that music would be my life since I was a grade school aged child.
CK: What made you want to pursue songwriting?
Chris Burnett - Kansas City USA: It was a natural extension of my development as an artist really. I always hear music in my head, so I started learning how to write it down many years and haven't looked back since.
