A Popup Interview with Blown
[ Artist Website ] | [ Buy Our CD ]
CK: So, tell me..what exactly, motivates you, the artist to write songs?
Blown: many things...usually hooks that just appear from nowhere, or jamming and adlibbing. Sometimes interpreting other musical styles into our own sound.
CK: How long does it take for an average song to go from a musical idea to a recordable song?
Blown: Anything from a couple of weeks to sometimes years, (which has happened with one of our songs called Head Down).
CK: Let us say that you have been just signed by a major label and they say time to move 2500 miles. Now what, would you be able to move?
Blown: I'd move anything for a major label to just acknowledge us...
CK: How do you transport your equipment to the gig?
Blown: It's a team effort usually. Vans, cars, camels, etc.
CK: How experienced are you or the band on the stage?
Blown: Too many years too even start thinking about!?!
CK: What would you like to change about your city's local music scene?
Blown: Everything, saying its dead is an understatement!
CK: Are there any established artists with whom you would like to collaborate?
Blown: Killing Joke, Tool, Aphex Twin, Liz Fraser, Delerium.
CK: What makes you and your band unique?
Blown: No one seems to be able to pigeon-hole us, I think that's pretty unique.
CK: Introduce the members in the band:
Blown: Dave Chambers : vocals
Andy Kimberley : drums
Jim Fletcher : bass
Daz Reynolds : guitar
CK: Most people will never know what it feels like to be on stage in front of a crowd, explain to them that feeling:
Blown: Impossible...when things are going right it's better than anything!
CK: Are you looking to get a record deal? Why?
Blown: Yes please! Apart from the obvious like the rock'n'roll lifestyle; people should have access to Blown: it's the law.
CK: Tell us about your worst gig and why it was so bad.
Blown: Dave was flying-low the entire gig.
CK: What do you like most about being an INDE artist?
Blown: Freedom of decisions.
CK: Describe your typical stage show performance. Give us a hint into what we might expect to see are your show.
Blown: Dave has been likened to Keith Flint of the Prodigy. Kimbo is like Animal from the Muppets. Jim's a kind of lanky Peter Hook. Daz is just Daz...
CK: Do you have a street or e-team system in place? Want one for your website?
Blown: Erm...
CK: Tell us about your website:
Blown: It's being given a well-earned facelift.
The music and attitude of Blown is a much darker affair than before, and this will be emulated within the new site.
CK: If you could put on a show anywhere were would it be?
Blown: Madison Square
CK: What is your favorite song on your current album?
Blown: Animal Boiler
CK: Where do you practice as a band and how often?
Blown: Muther's studios in Digbeth, Birmingham twice a week.
CK: How did you/all learn to play, self or school?
Blown: We are all self-taught and this is in our opinion an advantage; we know no boundaries within our music unlike classically trained musicians. What Philistines we are, eh?
