A Popup Interview with Angels Obsession
[ Artist Website ] | [ Buy Our CD ]
VR: What is your favorite song on the radio?
Angels Obsession: Michelle Branch "All You Wanted". We have alot of respect for the artists that write their own stuff and she's great!
VR: Has the internet really been helpful to your promotion?
Angels Obsession: Yes, we think it has. It's good for getting your name out there and getting yourself heard. It's also great for creating a fan base of people from all over the world.
VR: How big of an impact do you think the underground, indie scene has on the current pop culture?
Angels Obsession: I really don't think it has much impact on current pop culture. No one really pays alot of attention to indie artists, unless it's local people but even then the major label artists do get the attention that indie artists never will.
VR: Tell us a story about the making of a song:
Angels Obsession: It's always different. Sometimes I'll write a verse or a chorus or even just a line and ask Ashley to see if she can do something with it, or vice versa.
It never really happens the same way twice.
VR: How important do you think tour support is?
Angels Obsession: I think it's very important because touring is what gets you attention, what gets your music attention and creates your fan base. People need to see you.
VR: What would you change about the music business in general?
Angels Obsession: The fact that it's so shallow. If you aren't drop dead gorgeous then you don't have a chance.
VR: Tell us about your website:
Angels Obsession: We had a friend design the actual layout of the site but it's great we love it. It's got the early evening as a background and the stars it's like what dreams are made of.
VR: Who are your biggest influences?
Angels Obsession: Our biggest influences...well for Ashley one of them would have to be her father since he himself was a Candian singer/songwriter. But I think we'd both agree that a big influence was 50's and 60's rock n' roll. We were both brought up on that.
VR: If you could talk to anyone in the music business, who would it be?
Angels Obsession: Wow... good question...I don't know there are so many amazing personalities that we'd just want to meet and talk to everybody. It's hard to pick just one person
VR: Where do you want to be a year from now personally?
Angels Obsession: Touring, recording, hopefully with a major label deal.
VR: How do you write your songs (how do you think of them)?
Angels Obsession: It's like we said before sometimes one of us will come up with a line and the other will run away with the idea. We always work together on them.
VR: Can you name a few of you favorite places on the web for band promotions?
Angels Obsession: A great one is www.starpolish.com
And there are just all kinds of unsigned band promotion sites all over you just really have to look for them. Sadly Garageband.com is now gone and that's a great loss to indie musicians.
VR: What are your plans for the future with your band?
Angels Obsession: We just hope to be playing shows, writing, recording, just having a great time. Maybe even going the acting route like Mandy Moore and Britney.
VR: What would you do if you lost your musical abilities and are you a fullfilled enough person to accept that if it happened?
Angels Obsession: Music is everything to us. We can't imagine doing anything else for a living.
VR: How do you guys put songs together?
Angels Obsession: It's always different. You never know how a song is going to come together.
VR: If your band could open for a headlining act, who would it be and why?
Angels Obsession: Hanson. We really admire them for their talent and have a great deal of respect for their work.
VR: Do you or your organization promote up and coming artists:
Angels Obsession: We've thought about putting up a website to promote unsigned bands but there just isn't enough time to do it right now.
VR: Will mp3.com really provide an avenue for people to make it?
Angels Obsession: It's always possible. You never know who's going to hear your music and like it.
VR: What is your favorite local venue?
Angels Obsession: Not that we're played here yet but we'd love to Massey Hall.
VR: What do your lyrics talk about?
Angels Obsession: Mostly love and what happens to you when your in love or when you've been hurt by someone you love. It's something everyone can relate to.
VR: Do you do any recording on your own?
Angels Obsession: Other than using a tape recorder to help remember melody lines and guitar parts not too much.
VR: What makes you and your band unique?
Angels Obsession: The fact that we're pop and we play instruments and write our own songs. We're also not your typical blonde pop stars we're both redheads!
VR: What is your favorite chord?
Angels Obsession: That's a interesting question I can't tell you. I really don't know. I don't think we have a favorite chord.
VR: What you feel is the most important thing about your music?
Angels Obsession: Just that people can be able to put it on when their down and have their spirits lifted, or put it on when their in a great mood and just really get into it.
VR: How do you feel about NAPSTER's situation?
Angels Obsession: I thought it was great for those who download music. But from an artists point of view it isn't very helpful for record sales.
VR: Do you desire to come up with a new form of music or do you like safety in numbers?
Angels Obsession: Every new band that comes out is something new.
VR: Who is your favorite unsigned Band?
Angels Obsession: Hm...other than us....LOL I really don't know that's a tough call.
VR: What do you like most about being an INDE artist?
Angels Obsession: Everything.
VR: Discribe the times revolved around your song "nameone", that led to it to be written:
Angels Obsession: "Tell The Truth" was written about something that happened between a guy and a girl and afterwards the guy just pretended like it never happened and that really hurt the girl.
VR: What made you want to pursue songwriting?
Angels Obsession: Just because we both have alot more respect for artists who write their own stuff. Also it was just a natural progression we wanted to be able to express our own thoughts and feelings not those of someone else.
VR: Where would you want to be musically say a year from now?
Angels Obsession: I think the more time that goes by allows us to grow as musicians because we are experiancing so much in our daily lives that we can use to write songs about and we're growing as people. So hopefully we can improve as songwriters and musicians.
VR: Do you have all your songs downloadable at mp3.com?
Angels Obsession: Not yet. But hopeefully soon.
VR: What are your thoughts about the solar system?
Angels Obsession: It's a big big place LOL.
VR: Nice shirt your wearing, where did you find that?
Angels Obsession: Hey we're girls we're always going on shopping spree's whenever we have money that is LOL.
VR: Do you feel that "underground" is just a marketing term like anything else?
Angels Obsession: It could be we don't know that much about it to really comment.
VR: How long does it take for an average song to go from a musical idea to a recordable song?
Angels Obsession: It really depends on how into that peticular song we are and how much work we put into it at the time.
VR: What have you enjoyed the most about doing what you do?
Angels Obsession: Performing. Meeting people. We love everything about it!
VR: Give us a run down of your audio equipment:
Angels Obsession: We don't have the much but it's an ever growing collection.
Two Shure SM58's
One Shure wireless headset mic.
And an old bass amp LOL
VR: What is your favorite song on your current album?
Angels Obsession: My favorite song so far...is probably "In My Head"
VR: Name and describe your most memorable gig.
Angels Obsession: Most memorable...I guess that would have to be our very first show. We played at a pub called Darby's in Brampton Ontario. It was just amazing to be able to interact with the audience.
