Ok i was looking at getting some W7 12's but then the ED 12a's really caught my eye. who knows much about these subs other then the statistics. do they compete at all with the JL's? i'm going for a sub like JL that has good SQ and SPL but i dont really want to pay JL prices unless i have to. i can get 2 ED 12a's for the price of one w7. but i defiantly want something thats going to blow a w6 away... my friend has 3 of those:) nothing like some friendly competition.:) also has anyone actualy heard these subs? Replies (6) compvr15s on 12/12/2003 20:25:26 have you checked the adire audio web site, check there brahma series, theres a few video clips at the bottom, one with a single 15 ported has change jumpin probably 2 or 3 inchs of the roof of the guys exploerer. im thinkin about buy 2 12s, im sure they will be louder than my 2 12 in l7s were or my 2 15 inch comp vrs, and i guess tehy are high sound quality too. uochronos on 12/12/2003 20:49:47 Just by looking at the brahmas shortly they look very similar to the ED 12a's i was talking about but they have alot of short comings from the looks of it it takes 1000 watts to power or so... where as the 12a takes 500-1400rms and the one review on the 12a was done with a 500 watt alpine amp and he said it shook good. but again i dont need cahnge jumping to my roof. i want to keep the same SQ as my alpine type R's hopefully gain more and just add some SPL. i plan to start out running 2 12" ED's with a single 1000/1 jl amp an eventualy get a second one or get a 1200.1 phoenix gold titanium series and stick with that. either way the 12a's should keep up or surpass the brahma i can tell that from paper. i just wanted to see if anyone had some experience with the 12a's i like to hear a speaker before i buy it but that seems unlikely with the ED's so i have to settle for somone else from here maybe hearing one:) snipe523 on 12/12/2003 22:34:03 I personally own an ED 12A. Up to about 1000W it will be just about even with the W7's. Not until you get above 1000W will the JL's have an advantage. All in all the 12A is an amazing sub and for half the price of the W7 I'd say its more than worth it. I have mine running on 800W rms and it does more than enough for me. I run mine sealed in a 1.5 cubic foot enclosure and it has a nice flat response and gets damn loud. I would suggest if you want to here it go over to www.soundillusions.net and see if you can find anyone in your area that might let you take a listen. They have an ED specific forum over there. Also you could try going to the ED site and check out ED nation. They have a list of some people that own ED stuff and it is borken down by state, with their emails. That way you could contact someone to possibly take a listen to one. uochronos on 12/13/2003 12:50:11 i well try sound illusions.net on the ED nation only guy in oregon is about 180 miles away lol... long drive for a listen:) well i dont plan to give them more then 1000watts hehe in fact 1000each is the most i well top out with.... i basicaly want something that well put out a hell of alot of SPL but have the kill SQ of the JL's its really hard to find a sub that well put out the SQ and SPL like a JL well. i plan to start powering them with either 1000watt JL amp or a 1400watt phoenix gold sub. unless someone knows of an amp company thats like ed and has good quality for half the price hehe cplkittle on 12/13/2003 21:22:02 I have a couple of friends that swear on power acoustik amps, I have never heard of any flaws from them, but their systems aren't very elaborate setups. One is running 2 JBL 12's and the other is running 2 bahn 10s. They sound pretty good to me, and they seem to like them. The OV2 power acoustik gothic series 1600w amp is under $200 on ebay if you are interested. uochronos on 12/14/2003 12:10:34 Hmm the RMS on that amp is only 700watts the 1600 is max. and i'm pretty sure thats at 14.4 where as the Phoenix gold one i'm looking at is 1400 at 12.6 volts not to mention alot of other features on the phoenix gold and jl amps that that one doesnt have and alot of the quality seems low. thanks though Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
