still deciding on system

Hi, after reading a lot of reviews on the powered bass tubes, I think I might go with a 10 inch subwoofer. How would this system work? I've been online for hours putting this one together. Kicker kx 600 amp / 4 Pioneer 6x9 6980 4 way speakers / Kicker 102 comp 10 inch sub in a sealed box for pickup truck. / Profile 300 watt mono amp. Would this be a decent set-up? Will it be OK to run the 1 kicker sub? and will this give me harder bass than the Bazooka powered tube? Thanks again for any advice.

It was recommended to me and I have tried it and believe that you will get better sound out of a quality 5.5" or 6.5"mid compared to a 6x9. But that is all personal preference. I am not sure how the kicker would compare to the bazooka. I am pretty sure the powered tube would be cheaper. You are looking at a tube vs a sealed box also. a sealed box will give you tighter bass, whereas a tube will give you deeper bass with more reverb. The only thing you asked about was 'harder' bass. I assume you are looking for 'punch' over low frequency, in that case definitely go with the kicker. If you have room in your crew cab for something other than a truck box, I recommend building your own to the specs of the speaker. Sealed boxes are easy to build and you get exactly what you need.

OK, I haven't ordered the speakers yet, so I'm going to look into which ones to get. Your right, the kicker amp and sub is more expensive than the Bazooka, but I'm kind of looking for the type of bass you described. Rap kind of low bass I guess. Its a big cab but surprisingly hard to figure out where to put this stuff!! I think the sub box and sub amp would work behind the back seat right? Then the other amp could go under the front seat right? What do you think? Geez, I'm going to have to rip my whole new truck apart, but hopefully the sound I hope to get will be worth it. Not considering the dissasembly of the interior, do you think this system will be too much for a beginner to try to wire? Thanks again

I agree with cpl the kicker sub is going to give you alot more of the bass you desire rather than the bazooka. I also agree that you should try to get a set of 5.25 or 6.5 midranges to go in the 6x9 slots there will be a lil bit of cutting for the 6.5 midranges but it will be worth it you might even want to look into a set of component speakers instead. I don't think that this install will be to difficult as long as you are a little mechanically inclined you should be fine. Also while you have that interior ripped apart you might want to think about intalling some dynamat or brown bread.

also don't forget to run the speaker wires and rca away from the power cables, this will cut down on any possible intereference.

OK thanks for the info, I'm taking you guys advice on the speakers and I ordered everything else already. Just have to go speaker shopping yet and thanks for the help. It may be a week or so, cause I'm looking for a warm place to fit this bus into to work on, but I'll let you know how it went. Thanks again

Well I'm back already and I took you guys advice on the speakers but after looking at the seemingly hundreds to pick from I'm confused again. I am looking at the 5.5 or 6'5 like you suggested and I also looked at Kicker component speakers. I have no clue as what exactly those components are and on the other ones I'm not sure do I need 2 way or 3 way? Also I think I have to watch the power handling also with the Kicker kx600 4 channel amp. I need help one more time before I order if you guys don't mind thanks

Ok component speakers are basically a midrange speaker and tweeter that are seperate along with a crossover. The crossover sends your highs to the tweeters and mids to the midrange. you could do a set of 2 way components they will sound really nice better than a midrange with a tweeter built in, but you have to find a place to mount the tweeter. The 3 ways are actually 3 cones on one speaker it has a midrange a cone a little bit smaller than the midrange and a tweeter for highs. The 2 ways are just the midrange and tweeters. If you have room to mount a tweeter i would go with the components

6.5's generally have a slightly lower range. why not go with 6.5s in the back and 5.5s in the front, that will give you a little better range and give you firsthand experience of the difference in the two. As BigJ mentioned mounting the tweets seperate (somewhere on the dash) will give you a wider source of sound. When tweets are mounted in the doors, it muffles some of the highs.

Ok thanks so much again. I'm going to go order them now and I know exactly what you guys mean. I'm going to let you know how its going and I know its gonna sound real fine Thanks
