I have almost decided on a Kicker S12L5 single subwoofer to be powered by my JBL 600.1 amp. I am still wondering, since I am more interested in SQL than SPL, will the 20 Hz to 100Hz frequency response the S12L5 offers cause me to lose some bass that would be picked up by another sub? Or is any greater response not necessary for bass? I listen to mostly heavy metal and rock, but I want the sub for techno. Replies (12) compvr15s on 12/2/2003 16:43:27 i used to own 2 L7s 12 inch, and if your going for sq id choose somthing else, they are really loud but they arn't the best sounding subs. may want to look into infinity kappa perfects. i hear they are really crips clean sounding subs. wait for some others to reply since i have no experience with the infinitys, but i know what the solos sound like, they dont sound bad, its just they sound a lil different, i dunno if its because of the cone material or what, if it is going in your trunk you may not even notice the difference, good match up with the jbl600.1. good luck cplkittle on 12/3/2003 18:12:04 Solos are loud, and I agree.. more on the spl side. I have owned JBL and Audiobahn 12's that sounded clearer outside the car than my friend's 2 12"solos did inside the truck. The proper box and quality HUs have some impact on bass sound as well. compvr15s on 12/3/2003 18:17:55 i agree, the box is probably the most crucial part of makin the sub sound good, just depends on what you need, like if you have a 500 watts rms sub but your amp will only give it 400 or so, you can put it in a properly vented enclosure and gain the dbs that are being lost from the amp, will sound sound punchy in sealed but deep and loud in vented. when settin the gains try to equal them to the output from your head unit. most HUs now are 4volt min some may be lower but some are also higher, the higher the volt from the HU the stronger the signal to your amp, less distortion at same settings Jebus on 12/4/2003 09:16:02 If I go with the s12l5 I would probably put it in about a 1.4 cu ft sealed enclosure, because I want fast response. An Infinity Perfect might work, but I was wondering if it could handle the wattage of the JBL 600.1. I know the perfect is rated for 300W rms, but I do not know the rms of the 600.1. I read on the internet and Infinity tech sppt. told me it was 600W rms, but nowhere in the owners manual does it say "rms" after its wattage rating. If the 600W is peak, I'll get a perfect. If it is rms, I'll probably get the s12l5 unless you can suggest another single sub that can handle that for ~$200. Thanks. BIGJ11BB on 12/4/2003 12:50:44 The JBL BP600.1 is a 600 watt rms amp at 2 and 1 ohms. You should probably look at a different option for a 12 i have had the s12L7 and a s10L5 the L5 was not loud at all and sounded not so great the L7 hits really hard but has the different sound like comp said. You might want to look into adire shiva's. Jebus on 12/4/2003 16:43:10 The Adire Shiva looks great. It costs less than the S12L5 and from everything I've read on the net it sounds great and makes deep bass. If I wire it for 4 ohms it will also get 300W rms from the JBL. I think you found my sub. compvr15s on 12/4/2003 17:23:23 yea you can do that, will lose 3db since only giving it half the power, you can go ported if the sub allows, didnt check the specs too much and gain that loss back, and can always later get another shiva and wire in parellel to your other and have 2 12s and be using your amp to the max. good luck. hope we helped ya out. Buickman94 on 12/4/2003 20:41:08 I remember reading somewhere that the perfect was 4 ohm SVC. Im not sure, but if that is the case, ull get 300watts RMS from the JBL 600.1, a good match BIGJ11BB on 12/5/2003 01:38:42 Hey i'm glad i helped ya. I'm getting the same setup only and 2jbl 600.1's and 2 adire shiva's so we'll be in the same boat. I've heard the adire's in my friends dodge and it sounds amazing you'll love the adire. Jebus on 12/5/2003 08:47:53 You guys definitely helped me out a lot. I doubt I would have bought the quality audio equipment that I did after reading the forum and asking you sone qu's. Thanks a lot. I'll let everyone know how it sounds around the end of december, as I'm at college right now and had to have some of the stuff shipped home. kiaman on 12/6/2003 01:36:10 just a question BIG J..........arnt the shiva's dual 8 ohm? that would mean out of both amps you would only get 300 rms.....and that amp is stable in 2 ohms...so why not just get one? you will get the same amount of power at half the cost? inst this correct? BIGJ11BB on 12/6/2003 16:56:58 Yes that is correct that is why i considered an adire because he was only looking for one 12. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
