Ive just brought new head unit and front 6" speakers for '96 323. Now the rear speakers i think are 6X8. If i was to buy 6X9 can they fit in the same place as the 6x8 or do i hav to have them proffessionally installed? Also, how do the different wattages on the speakers influence their sound quality and clarity?? Replies (9) ttocs on 12/1/2003 09:27:15 you won't really notice the difference, but they could be fit in there. With a saw.... Tray on 12/1/2003 10:29:12 The work it'll take to mount 6x9s, in my opinion, is definitely not worth the effort. I'd look into a set of quality 6x8s and you can drop them in easily. As for the power handling, the numbers don't necessarily affect their sound quality/clarity. Basically if you are going to run your speakers directly from your HU, you want to make sure the recommended power handling range for the speakers encompasses the actual output from your HU. Typically you will be OK, but if you have specific model #s, let us know, and we should be able to make sure you are pairing together a setup which will work together. nFusion on 12/1/2003 17:06:22 Tray On the HU it says 50x4W. is that the power handling ur talking about. Buickman94 on 12/1/2003 22:34:41 Yes thats what Tray's talking about. 50 x 4 means 50 watts into 4 different channels, each getting 50 watts. Keep in mind that is a peak number, the RMS is probably somewhere between 18-22watts depending on the HU. nFusion on 12/2/2003 03:01:17 So are you saying that i am limited to 18-22 watt speakers. What about like 300w speakers? cplkittle on 12/2/2003 09:18:11 300 watt speakers will need an amp to get good quality sound at higher volumes unless you are talking about tweeters. Alot of tweets will run way below peak rating. I If you use 300w mids, the will sound ok with low power, but they will not be very loud. Do not be discouraged if they don't sound like you expected run only off the HU, they are just underpowered. You can always add an amplifier later if you wish. There are alot of good quality midrange speakers out there that require much less wattage. I am assuming you already have new 6's and they are the 300w speakers you mentioned, so I would just install them if you don't have the money for the amp now, and add it on later. If you are like most people, this upgrade is the start of a very enjoyable addiction to car audio. nFusion on 12/3/2003 03:43:06 Sweet as. Ive already installed the 6" nd im gttn new 6x9s. Now ill have to spend money on an amp. thnx 4 ur advice guys!! :-) ckoscin2 on 12/4/2003 03:01:20 i have a set of infinity kappa 6x8's in my back pannels and i love them !! once i had kappa's all the way around, now i have diamond comps up front. very good sq i think.i have the front 6x8's still i could let them go. if your intrested email me and let me know.. ckoscin2@yahoo.com (not sure if your suposed to sell things on here but i just have really good speakers that are laying around and need a new home) nFusion on 12/4/2003 05:44:36 na sorri ckoscin.
