Need some opinions. I am trying to add some filler sound in the middle to rear of car. Am currently running a RF 400.4 that powers rear deck and front door speakers. I dont want to add another amp (too lazy and dont have enough room on amp rack), so my question is what would be better. Run the door speakers in series or parallel off the 4 channel amp. I've heard that the RF amp are direct drive type amps and running an 8 ohm/channel load can really hurt them which means i would have to parallel. Being that the wire to the door speakers is much longer than to the rear deck, i'm going to loose sound to the door speakers if I run parallel. Any opinions? By the way, Welcome back Swez. I'm still wanting to continue the debate on the alt vs cap, but there's only so many times you can kick a dead horse......... Replies (3) ttocs on 11/27/2003 20:22:40 you will not damage an amp by running it at 8 ohms. An amp running at 8 ohms will run cooler, but with less pwr then an amp at 4 ohms. I would not recommend putting them in series or parallel as that means that they will be playing the same signal, which will throw the soundstage and imaging all off.... You said the amp is running the "rear deck". What is that exactly? STRATUS225 on 11/27/2003 20:27:58 Rear deck speakers. (infinity 6x9's). So then your suggestion would be? The only other options I would have would be to add another amp or run them off straight off the deck. I guess my biggest problem is me. I am 6 foot 6 tall and when i drive I get more sound from the rear than i do from the front, which is why i thought the fill in the mid/rear of vehicle would be a bit better than what i have now. cplkittle on 11/28/2003 07:23:01 you have a 4 channel amp and how many speakers are you trying to run off of it?? i am trying to figure out how many sets of speakers (not counting subs) that you have in your car. I am assuming 4 door speakers and the infinitys in the back. If this is so, you have three options as I see it. 1) disconnect the rear door speakers since you have 6x9s back there now, and only amp the fronts and the 6x9s. 2) I am assuming the door speakers are still factory, wire them as the front channel and use the 6x9s as your rear channel, ot run the rear doors and the 6x9s as one and isolate fronts. 3) spend $300-400 on a 6 channel amp http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3061846979&category=4950 Buying the 6 channel amp is only going to give you more power to the fronts. For stereo 6ch output, you need stereo 6ch input. see option # 2 Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
