| Got a JBL 600.1 now need SUB help!!!by PAPI0513 Front Page * FAQ Forum * Archive Index Prev :: NextI am currently running two 12" PIoneer Vccs in my JBL 600.1 its sounds good and hits hard but I want to purchase some better ones. Anyone has any recomendations on subs? Budget is kinda low but trow some ideas I might strech my pockets some for some better sound. Thanks Replies (17) xplicitblitzboi on 04/15/2003 15:08:47 For budget, here are a few good suggestions: Kicker Comp VR JL w0 Cerwin Vega (Vega Series) You can find most of these on ebay for some good prices, but you just gotta be patient if you want to find good equipment for cheaper prices, it took me a month to find my 3 10w0s(in box) for 175. just be patient and you shouldnt be dissapointed. ttocs on 04/15/2003 19:05:20 I could go for all of those except the vega's.... Never been a big fan of them no matter how many you get free when you buy one at best buy... SeVeNX7X on 04/15/2003 21:35:52 how bout Adire Shivas? 125 each.. not bad for such a great sub. xplicitblitzboi on 04/15/2003 22:50:08 i never buy anything from best buy, i've heard and studied a couple of the vegas and they seem fine to me. A friend of mine has been in car audio since 89 and still reccomends CV. I know for sure that the strokers are quality equipment, i've heard and seen them at competitions(ford festiva) check it out at www.wickedcases.com its a nice setup. and about the shivas yeah, adire is great, theyve just been having some reliability issues lately, but i wouldnt really worry about it. PAPI0513 on 04/15/2003 23:49:29 I really don't want to buy anything from Best buy but thank you for your opinbions and recomendations. When you talked about the shivas not being reliable were you talking about company wise or as a product? Do you recomend shivas over the list you gaveme before???? compvr15s on 04/16/2003 01:23:08 id highly recommend the comp vr12s. i heard 2 of them running off a kx400.1 prolly pushing 250 watts maybe and they were very loud in an older honda prelude, and im sure they are reasonably priced prolly 149 at a stereo shop, and like 159 for two of ebay. i think you would be happy. xplicitblitzboi on 04/16/2003 03:11:00 they dont sell CV at best buy, well, at least best buy isnt authorized to. go with my 1st list. Kicker Comp VR JL w0 Cerwin Vega (Vega or Stroker Series) Adire audio Shivas(dont worry about what i said about reliability issues, its a good sub, i highly reccomend it) PAPI0513 on 04/16/2003 10:12:05 FYI Xplicit I donno why but here the best buys in ATL do sell those CV. I have used Kickers but years ago and they worked great so I'm gonna choose between them and Adire audio shivas which look like they sound like a great deal. I have gotten great advice here before and I think Imight just go for those Shivas what u think? If you recomend the kickers Ill go with that. Thanks 4 everything xplicitblitzboi on 04/16/2003 11:58:22 yeah, i dont know, but here they dont sell CV at best buy. Dont buy CV equipment from Best Buy, they most likely arent the same. Best buy likes to put their components into the products that they sell(crap). If you do get CV, go with the Strokers or the older LE-12D series. but yes, go with the shivas, that would be a good choice, and a perfect amp to run them, you might want to think about your alternator situation if you are going to be running a 600 watt system. blacktallon2000 on 04/17/2003 02:35:00 what's thebeef with best buy xplicitblitzboi on 04/17/2003 12:06:55 best buy is not known for selling the highest quality equipment, they sometimes insert their own, low-quality components inside the merchandise that they sell. so essentially, you are just buying the case of a semi-good amp with not too good components. Im not even gonna say anything about best buy's installs, thats getting into some crappy stuff there. Swez on 04/18/2003 07:45:39 Yes, Shiva is a very good choice for the price and power handling is very good here too. The Shiva is a dual 8+8 ohm driver. A pair wired paralel is 2 ohms which is great for the JBL amp. In a sealed enclosure, 1.0-1.5 cf per sub is a good range, The larger the box, the deeper the bass will be. Build a box for a guy and installed 2 Shiva's in 1.5 cf/sub. Sounded very good at 600 RMS on my test amp and even better in his vehicle. A 2nd choice to consider: Infinity Reference or Kappa SVC #1220W/KAPPA 120.3SE These are very good subs and a low price too: www.justwoofers.com Infinity 1220W Suggested Retail Price: 149.95......... SALE: 2 for $119.99 Power Handling RMS: 300W Power Handling Peak: 1200W Frequency Response (± 3dB): 22Hz - 800Hz Sensitivity: 92dB Mounting Depth: 6-1/8" Impedance: 4 Ohms KAPPA 120.3SE Suggested Retail Price: $209.95...........Sale: 2 for $185.00 Power Handling, RMS: 300 Watts Power Handling, Peak: 1200 Watts Frequency Response (±3dB): 18Hz – 250Hz Sensitivity: 92dB Impedance: 4 Ohms Swez PAPI0513 on 04/19/2003 10:45:31 1st of all thanks for everything you guys been great help. 2nd Best Buy does suck I worked for them before and about the installs I know exacly what you mean they install my alarm and I had to return 3 times for them to do it right and i still beleive is wrongly installed their work is crap trust me. I love the pricees on those infinity one more ? Im going to purchase them either today or tomorrow which I should go with Infinity or shivas? Swez on 04/19/2003 11:19:15 If you are on a tight budget and don't expect to upgrade to a larger amp later, the Infinity is a very solid product. If you have any thoughts of running a larger amp in the future, then the Shiva is a better choice. These subs can handle >500 watts RMS per sub (rated closer to 650 I think) so with a pair, you can easily drop in a 1000 watt amp with two Shiva's. Adire is one of the best kept secrets out there in car audio... but Adire is a very good company to deal with too. If you have a problem with a sub, they'll work it out pronto... so in my mind, over all the best value buy is here! Swez ttocs on 04/19/2003 17:08:10 as for the best buy beef question, I worked there for over 2 yrs in a time long long ago, in a galaxy far far away. They tend to treat their people there with very little, some times no respect. All they care about is there ext warranty, conversion sales, numbers numbers numbers..... Of all the places I worked at it was truely the worst. it has been close to 7 yrs since I worked there. i refuse to support them and to date I have only bought one thing from them since. That was because of a gift card that someone gave me unknowingly...... As for the quality, They sell great stuff as long as you like sony and jensen. CV was the only half descent sub they sold when I was there. If you do get them, don't put them in a bandpass box.. I have seen the cones on too many of they explode as they cannot handle the pressure they create. GT_man on 04/20/2003 06:31:12 best buy now carries fosgate.....not their high end subs tho....just the Punch Z's and the HE's....decent subs megahurts4 on 04/20/2003 20:00:16 I wouldn't recommend RF anymore. Unless you bought ONLY their high end stuff. Their lower end stuff is getting crappy. |
