I need some help with subs. What would be better - two good quality 8" subs or one good quality 10" sub? Thank you. Replies (13) alanjlamore on 11/26/2003 22:02:10 It depends on what you want. Two 8" subs would have a higher total surface area and would play louder (assuming that the same amount of watts are going to all of them), but one 10" sub would play deeper bass. DP on 11/26/2003 22:27:32 I'm not sure what I exactly want. I am scared that I am not going to get my system as loud as I had hoped because of so little space for subs, so the two 8" is looking better. I pretty much only listen to hip-hop. I would also like deeper bass. But since I listen to hip hop, i should probably go for loudness more than for deep bass, right? Any suggesstions anyone? triumph1902 on 11/27/2003 03:49:49 Definitely a good 10". He is right the 8" subs do have more surface area but their base is simply not deep enough. You will get a shallow base, and if u listen to rap that’s not what you want. My friend has a 10" alumapro alchemy hooked up to about 300w rms. It thumps so hard you would think he had 2 12's in there. Depend on how much u want to spend but you may want to look at the JL 10w7. It will run you $200 new on ebay but it will blow you away. cplkittle on 11/27/2003 09:24:45 You could actually go with a 12 if you wanted and not take up too much space in a supercrew cab. And since it is all open space, a single 12 in a bandpass box would sound pretty sweet. I am not sure how the back seats are set up in your truck though. A 12 bandpass will probably be around 15x15x18 or so depending on how it is built. You can always build your own box if you have a little extra time. It is alot cheaper (1 sheet 3/4 MDF is around $18) plus maybe a 12x12 piece of 3/8" plexiglass ($12) and whatever you decide to cover it with- carpet, vinyl, crushed velvet, felt.... DP on 11/27/2003 16:25:55 I can't fit a twelve in there with a bandpass box. Either two 8" or one 10" will fit. I have checked on Crutchfied and their specialty boxes only fit these subs. Is Crutchfield overpriced? I live in Canada and I would have to put more on their price. cplkittle on 11/27/2003 16:53:09 gotcha.. I did some research and posted another reply, but it didn't take for some reason.. look at this website, it is for a custom box. This is a pretty neat box, and could give you some ideas for your truck. http://www.subbox.net/store/product40.html YES, crutchfield is very overpriced. Look online (thezeb.com) or ebay (my favorite) STRATUS225 on 11/27/2003 19:16:15 With my own experience, have had two 8" subs, and then one 10" and now one 12", all same subs, driven by same amp. The sound has only gotten better. The only thing with the 8's is that the box has to be absolutely perfect to spec. Keep us posted to which way you go. By the way, i live in canada as well (calgary), crutchfield is a good website for info, lousy on price........ DP on 11/27/2003 21:39:24 I am pretty sure I will go with the one 10" sub. Hey Stratus, are the prices out in Alberta good and can I get some good deals? I am coming out there at Christmas and was wondering if I could get some good deals. My brother-in-law from Calgary said that A&B Sound was moving some time soon. Is this true? Maybe I could get some things at their closeout sale at Christmas. STRATUS225 on 11/28/2003 00:59:29 Hey man. I've been hearing the same ruhmors ab out a&b sound. They've usually been the best place to shop for car audio here, especially on boxing day (get ready to start standing in line at at least 7:00 if you want to catch the good deals. The best deals usually happen during soundsarounds summer off-site sale.(a little too late and cold for you to catch it though i'm afraid. Where you coming from? DP on 11/30/2003 21:46:11 Thanks alot for the site you found Kittle. This changes everything. There are quite a few different sub boxes I could go with if I got some from that site. Stratus - yeah I might check out a&b when I come. I am coming from Manitoba, just inside the border from Saskatchewan. You probably moved to Calgary form Manitoba, eh. Ha Ha!! Tray on 12/1/2003 10:45:11 Also, check out www.supercrewsound.com www.proboxrocks.com www.magnumrocks.com You could also see quite a bit about what others with the same style truck have done over at www.fordtruckworld.com My gallery is at http://ftw.truckmoxie.com/mygallery.ten?id=11224 and while I have a setup that I love the sound of, I'm not too proud of the looks of my box, but hey for 1.5 hours after my kids went to sleep, what can you expect. DP on 12/1/2003 21:59:20 Thanks for the websites. So you put the amp in the storage compartment behind the seat, eh. I was wondering about doing that since you guys found the sites with the dual downfire sub boxes which would take up all the space under the seats. With all the options on the sites that were suggested what would you go with. I am looking and the dual downfire boxes, but I don't know if it is the easiest. cplkittle on 12/2/2003 09:32:20 I personally am kinda neutral on the downfire boxes.. never heard one that sounded as good as a ported box myself. For an open space like you have in that truck, a ported box will give you lower bass, but you are sacrificing some 'punch'. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
