My Daughter got a new to her car, a 1999 Cadillac Deville. It has a okay system and CD player in it. She wants a sub and a amp for it for Christmas. I went buy a few Sound shops, man like a thousand big ones installed. I need help. I put in a few systems in my day but never any subs. I wan to give her something good I just don't want to spend a grand doing it. So I need what to get as well as how to install it. Thanks for you help Gary Replies (9) STRATUS225 on 11/26/2003 18:07:28 It would help if we all knew more about how much you do want to spend, how big of a sub do you want, and if the deck in the car is still factory. Another question to ask yourself, is she going to want to upgrade it again soon after, because if i was, a sub and amp would be the last place i would start. z06gman on 11/26/2003 18:17:31 Well I was looking in the $500 range. The Factory set up ( yes the CD player is also) in good, she likes it. She just wants more base, she in into that hip hop stuff. Looking at twin 12" subs. I hope this helps. cplkittle on 11/26/2003 18:54:59 for easy, quick inexpensive bass, you could always go with bazooka tubes or triangles as they are shaped now. They are pretty easy to install, and are good for the price. As for prices, look on ebay. stereo shops mark up everything at least 100% STRATUS225 on 11/26/2003 19:00:10 Go to www.thezeb.com, there is a special on orion amp xtr 900.2, very decent amp and 2 rockford hx2 12" subs. running at 599.95 with free shipping. A little more than you wanted to spend, but very good equipment. (especially for that hip hop stuff). You're still going to need a box (also avail on that website built for those subs) and wiring. Browse around this site, you may find something you like better for cheaper. Hope this helps. ttocs on 11/26/2003 21:37:12 Honestly before you get all that I would HIGHLY recommend an alarm if she does not have one. That is always the first step. I am amazed how many get stolen... Last week at the national finals, one of the top competetors truck(big dodge desil), enclosed trailer and the competition vehicle($50,000) was stolen. But back to the question at hand, 2 12"s and a descent amp will fill a caddy FULL of bass. There are many options in that price range. Are you willing to buy online? If that is the case the choises are endless, and the stuff is cheaper. Otherwise you will need to look around and see what brands you have available. We can help you sort through the salesmans bs(high and deep normally) and tell you what would be the best bang for the buck... ryan on 11/27/2003 00:02:24 Ttocs idk if u kno this already but they got the car back. triumph1902 on 11/27/2003 04:05:17 Systems are not cheap. You will need: Deck - at least $200-$300 Amp - at least $200 2 subs- at least $200 Enclosure - $80 Wires - $50 You have on option however. You can buy an amp with highlevel inputs which would hook up to the rear speakers on the car therefore allowing you to keep your factory deck. I would hook the amp up to 2 tens in a bandpass box. This will give you a nice amount of bass and not cost as much. The drawback would be the quality of the sound, most people here would say, but you have to understand we are audio nuts. I'm sure your daughter will not know the difference and her Deville will bump:) ttocs on 11/27/2003 20:37:43 you can keep the factory deck in if you want. Ryan- huh? Swez on 11/27/2003 21:30:41 All depends on $$ you wish to spend and how much install work you wish to perform on your own. GENERAL SUGGESTIONS: 1. A pair of 10's or 12" subs (sealed is fine) 2. Amp to match subs power and ohmic load 3. A well matched enclosure for the subs 4. Power feed, ground line and a fuse 5. A quality line convertor OR amp with speaker level inputs Might want to measure the Height, Width and Depth in the truck. Once you know these limitations, picking a good box and subs will be much easier. Comments? Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
