Need RCA outputs

Ok....my 89 SHO has the premium sound w/ the factory amp. I bought an old pair of mtx 10's in a banpass box and a POS 400watt amp off my cuzins b/f till i save up some money for a real system. The factory amp does not use RCAs, it uses wires instead. If i find these wires can i splice into them and splice a set of RCA's to hook up the amp. This would only be temopary sinceim gettin my HU out of my other car in a couple weeks(the cars at my g/f's 300 miles away) and i got 2 sets of RCAs w/ the subs, so when i get my HU back ill do it the right way. What to u guys think??? Thanks!!!

I have done it before, and since it is temporary, I see no problem with it if you don't mind messing up a set of rca's. just make sure you have the pos and neg correct on the amp input wires. the rcas are wired in layers, the outside sometimes woven is the negative, the inner thin wire is pos. Some may be two wires but most of those are high quality shielded rcas.

this is a fact that I wrote about putting a system on a factory radio. It covers the basics of it, but unfortunatly yours is not that simple....

The issue that we are dealing with, is that the JBL primium sound system is really really bad. Adding a sub amp and sub on one usually results in generally very bad sound.. The JBL amps are gained up so high, that they start to clip the signal(popping noises is what you hear) when signal is not very high. When you take the input on one, and feed it to a much better aftermarket amp, the sub will barely start to move, before the sound is bad....

Another issue that we have to work with is that there is possible a wiring difference that may or may not hurt you. There is a chance that an '89 ford will have a common ground wiring system. These will not mesh well with a floating ground system, which is what the rest of the known world uses....

You need to find the amp. It should be a really ugly octagonal shaped metal box, probably under the rear deck or attached to the back of the back seat. There will be two hrns comming out of it. One an input, one an output. Can you tell which are the speaker wires? A common ground system may have 5-6 wires, a floating ground will have 8.

we should be able to do something, we may just have to try a few things.

Thanks for the help ttcos and cplkittle, i was originaly thinking of using a line out converter. I am also debating just buying a junk tape deck just for the outputs and buying a bypass plug for the factory amp. Im going to go to the store in a couple hours and ill let you guys know what i end up with. Thanks for the help!!

gutting the factory deck and the bypass would be the easiest way.....

What store are you going to? You can get stuff online cheap.

Im going to go to the local stereo shop down the street, this is just a quick fix for a couple weeks till i get my HU back so i dont wana take the time to order stuff online n then have to wait for them to get here. I'll pay the couple extra bucks at the store. What do you mean by gutting the deck and baypass????

bypass hrns. I think scosche calls it,"Ford integration/bypass hrns". It will simply plug the input and output hrns together on the amp and bypass them..

Ok....i bought a line out converter but they didnt have the bypass harness in stock. I'll try another place tomarrow for the harness. Now that i got the converter, what is the easiest way to hook it up?? Using the rear speakers or should i just wire it to the back of the deck?? Thanks!!

ttocs on 11/24/2003 21:13:53
ok, wait.... I though you were getting a different deck instead of a LOC? If you get a deck, you don't need the LOC, but do need the bypass hrns. If you keep the stock deck, you need the loc, but not the bypass hrns...

I didnt buy a cheap tape deck cuz all the ones that they had didnt have outputs. So i just got a loc....this will only be for a couple weeks till i get my HU back so im no worried about looks....what would be the easiest way to hook it up....just to the back speakers??? like i said i dont care if the loc is just sittin on the back deck or anything, or would it just be as easy to wire it to the deck? Thanks!!

It would be better off to tap the leads at the back of the deck. This will get the signal before it gets all the inline noise, and also allow for easy rca connections when you do replace the factory deck. However agian with the premuim sound we may have to try a couple of things. Start there, although it may not sound all that good. We can move it later....

Well i didnt read your post till now ttocs, i just got done hooking the converter to the back speakers....and it sounds horrible. The subs pick up every sound. I didnt hook it to the HU because on my harness theres only like 5 wires coming to the deck and the rest look like they are in the dash behind the glovebox and this is a temperary thing so i didnt feel like going through all that.

i know they have bass blockers for speakers, do they have anything like this to block out the highs?? And if they do how much are they? Thanks for the help!!

Sky605 on 11/25/2003 21:05:49
ttocs, I also saw in your article that you said to hook the remote wire to the 12v ingnition wire. On my harness theres a yellow wire w/ a black stripe next to the ground wire....im guessing that this is the 12v ignition wire, right?

Sky605 on 11/26/2003 17:29:45
I could not find any blockers online only bass blockers. So im guessing my best bet is to hook the converter as close to the the deck as possible right?
