Hey can anyone tell me what is wrong with my system? I used to have this system in my 1986 Mustang hatchback, and it set off alarms and shook other cars at intersections. It was the cheapest Sony Xplod deck, 880watt 5 channel Xplod amp, Rockford Punch 6x9's, a boss 600W 12" sub in a sealed enlosure (single voice coil) and the stock front speakers. I moved that system into my 91 Lumina Z34, The system is the exact same except the sony deck was replaced with a new Alpine deck and Bose 4 inch front speakers were added. At nearly full volume the sub barely shakes the rearview mirror. The 6x9's are putting out almost more bass then the sub is. We tried my sub hooked up to my friends system, and it sounded weird, it almost hits late or something. Anyone have any possible solutions for my problem? The sub doesn't fit as tight into the box anymore, so the wood may have warped or something, i dont know how much that would affect the sound (still fits tight, just now its not a fight to get it in). any help would be greatly appreciated. If it slowly returns back, then your box is leaking. The other problem you are dealing with is that you went from a hatchback, to a trunk. You will loose alot of sound there as it now has to travel through the seat to get to you. Where as before it was just laying 6ft behind you. Also, is the amp crossed over? Also, bose speakers added? I have never added bose speakers to any system. Bose speakers are generally made to go into their specific enclosure, with their specific amp(2 ohm speaker). I would rip them out... Also, what kind of wiring did you run? What size? platinumdevil on 11/23/2003 16:47:17 The bose speakers aren't really added, i should have said that the factory Bose speakers in the ported factory locations are part of the system, instead of the factory premium speakers in the mustang, sorry about that, its irrelevant neways, they're runnin off of the decks power and are temporary. I used Rockford Fosgate wiring, 8 guage power wire/ground wire and 12 guage wire (i think) for the sub. And Rockford speaker wire for the 6x9's. The 6x9's are crossed over to about ~275-300hz and the sub is ~50-75hz. The 6x9's are running off of the rear channels (not bridged), and the sub is running off of the sub channel. Nothing is being run by the front channels. ttocs on 11/23/2003 21:10:37 is there an adj output for the sub, on the deck? if there is, what level is it set to? Also, the sub could be crossed over higher, 75-80 hz, and the 6x9's could go lower(75-100hz). platinumdevil on 11/23/2003 23:24:51 I dont think there is an adj output, but im not sure, its an Alpine CDM-9803. (I just bought the deck a couple of weeks ago). When I have the 6x9's crossed over any lower i get alot of clipping and distortion. The way my deck is hooked up the subwoofer control on the deck also controls the 6x9's because they are running off of the same amp, i have no idea how to fix this, other than buying a new amp, which i dont want to do. At this point im thinking the error(s) are in the deck installation.... but i have no idea how to fix them. The deck has 2 preouts for front and rear, i have the rear preouts goin to the amps rear preouts, and then the amp is powering the 6x9's and sub. The only quick-fix i can think of is to hook up the 6x9's to the deck, and use my 5 channel amp as a one channel and run the sub, but then i have no crossover for the 6x9's, I know im missing something easy, but i can't figure it out :S... ttocs on 11/24/2003 10:41:24 a 5 channel amp is not going to be happy on one channel. What is the gain on the amp set at? Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
