Here goes, i got bored of my current setup (3 kicker solobaric L5 12s) and gave 2 of them to my girlfriend along with my JBL BP1200.1 amp. I decided i wanted a SQ system from now on rather than just SPL.
It was time to treat myself so i logged on to ebay and purchased:

1 set of JL XR-635-CS three way components (6" 3 way)
1 Nakamichi PA504 Amp (50 watt x4)

I allready own a nice alpine heardunit(the number escapes me)
A JBL GTE422 EQ
A set of Kinnetic 6" components for the rear
A 5 Farad power cap (NO i didnt buy it it was given to me so i thought i may aswell use it)
Dual Charge system
Optima Red Top (Up Front)
Optime Yellow Top (In the tunk)
0 awg wiring kit & HQ RCA's

Now ive given u a bit of background to my question.
I have No sub(s) or Power amp for them.
trying to keep cost within + - $1200 and keeping in mind i want primarelly SQ but still want SPL at the same time (yes im gready i know).
Amp Options are as follows
PG Ti 800.1
PG Octain R15.0.1
JBL BPX 1100.1
HiFonics BX1500D
Orion 1200D
JL1000.1(little too pricey though)
Directed 1100.1
DLS A6 (like to look of this one)
Nakamichi PA-8001
Alpine MRD1000

Subs should i go for
2 x 10s
2 x 12s
or 1 x 15

Models in mind are:
RE XXX (2 x 10's or 1 x 15)
Orion H2 (any combination)
DD351x (2 x 10's)
DD951x (1 x 15 or 1 x 12 possibly)
JL W6V2 (2 x 10's or 2 x 12s)
JL W7 (1x13)

I listen to all types of music Garage, RNB House, Dance, Trance Rock well just about anything modern.

I dont necessarilly want to buy the most expencive items listed above just the ones wich will meet my requirements best. Ohh and if you have any other suggestions which i have not mentioned please speak up.

audiobahn has the immortal series
http://www.audiobahninc.com/products/woofers/immortal.html
Audiobahn's immortal Series Subwoofer is an SPL dream, with either Quad 2 Ohm or Dual 2 Ohm voice coil configurations.
Proprietary Tall Excursion foam surround: allows for maximum excursion and maximum cone surface area
Ultra light 2-layer Carbon Fiber, KevlarŪ Cone with aluminum dustcap
Triple Stack Magnet
Diamond Cut Cast Basket
25mm Top Plate for Increased Efficiency
Quad or Dual voice coil wound on black anodized aluminum former

haven't priced these and can't find them on ebay yet either.

Don't dis me on this one. I never liked bazooka either, and would almost be ashamed to brag on it being in my car, but I was in circuit city yesterday looking around, and I heard this VERY clean soft heavy bass coming from the car audio section. I was amazed to see the culprit of this almost Heavenly bass, it was the new P.Miller series 12" sub by bazooka. and it looked ugly!!!! It has a green tank on the front. I would definitely recommend checking this one out though. Maybe put it in a bandpass box with no glass, and let everyone guess what you have lol.

Seriously, the best thing to do is go and listen to some. I know they sound different in the store than they would in your car, but you can definitely tell a difference in sound quality. Also if you would mention what type of vehicle these are going in, someone could help you decide on the size and quantity of your subs.

Personally, I have been looking at 5 channel amps to cover all of my needs instead of seperate ones. Also you could add a seperate crossover to isolate freqs to each type of speaker. Memphis makes some really nice ones. also look for mcintosh, kenwood, or MTX crossovers.

Sorry forgot to addmy car is a medium hatch i can spare upto 5^ft for the box.
I dopntwant a bandpass system as they have very limited frequency responce and SQ is my target.

Small sealed box or tuned ported would do you fine in the low end department. But what is missing in lots of peoples "SQ" section is midbass. I see lots of people pumping nothing but highs to the fronts, mid highs to the rear, and of course low end to the subs.

Out of your list...2 JLW6 10"s or 12"s can get quite loud and sound beautiful. For the price you could get 2 12" infinity Perfects and just about any amp you mentioned would push them fine.

Others can suggest other subs but i really recommend geting kick panels or similar help fill the frequency gaps (better midbass). I havent heard any reasonably priced component speakers sound any better than even cheap kick panel setups. Worth the money and looks cool too.

I almost ordered a Nakamichi setup how are they? Local audio shop sells them and they seem nice. anyone?

Help me out golds...hehe

Ive never heard them personally, but Nakamichi is supposed to be some pretty good higher end stuff. what model were you looking at?

-dan- on 11/21/2003 15:14:24
Yeah nakamichi gear is sweet. This is one of the best amps ive heard for components,It mixed with my JL components produce awsome results. Id rate it in a similar catagory to gesesis but personally i think my nakamichi sounds much more musical than my friends genesis amp. Yes my 3 ways are in kick pannels, well the mid bass driver is in the door wich is dynamated and the mid and tweeter are in kick pannels. I like this setup as it means the kicks dont take up all the room in the car(being a medium hatch legroom is at a premium)
Anyone else have a opinion on the sub or amp???

cplkittle on 11/22/2003 09:46:20
more info on the bazooka subs.. they are actually the P. Miller Signature Series by Master P. All reviews and ratings are in the 95% + area, I checked 3 different boards and audio review pages. Looks like the going price for these is $60-80 ea online, around $100 ea in stores.
desc...The dual voice coils are available in dual 4-ohm and dual 2-ohm configurations for high-end amplifier compatibility. Using a C.H.I.L. Plug with a C.H.I.L. Pack on this woofer means that you can dump and additional 50% more RMS power into the voice coils before they will reach their thermal limits.

thanks, anyone else have a opinion like ttocs?? Really i was looking for higher end solutions to bazooka. Just stumbled across fusion are they any good??? bit more expencive than the RE XXX but look a lot more efficient.
And any opinions on amps? do different amps make much difference to SQ when used on a sub or can the difference not really be heard?
thanks

dan

I am more on the install side, but I can give a coulpe of cents here.

I have owned bazooka's in the past, and could agian if needed. They take up little space, and give descent bass. i don't know if I would rate them for SQ or SPL, more like fill really. Easy install, easy bass..

That "chill" pack seems like a load of BS to me. I am willing to bet is is simply a devised to take pwr away from the speaker to protect it. Often they dump the extra pwr into a light to get a small glow from within the speaker. Bose and jbl have done this for years along with other home audio brands.

Richard Clark of carsound has had a longstanding bet for $25 G's that NOBODY has won yet. He will set up a couple of amps, running to the same speaker, you just guess which amp. I am NOT telling you that there is not a difference in quality, but not necessarily sound quality. Pay for the good stuff, or replace it later..............

cplkittle on 11/25/2003 08:51:47
Let me get this straight about Mr Clark, he is saying that it is the speaker that has everything to do with sq, not the amplifier?

ttocs on 11/25/2003 11:30:25
I think he means the head unit actually, but I don't know if I agree or disagree. I just know that nobody has beat him yet..

Also on the note of Nak stuff... They do make some very VERY nice headunits, and then they also make stuff for best buy. There is a difference between the two, the name does not make it sound good.
