My phoenix gold tantrum series amp is a 500.2 model it is 125x2 or 500x1 well on there web site it says the "iasca" power rateign is 50watts/rms to 2 channels. well i guess i have 2 questions how many watts rms am i getting when its bridged and 2 how do i find the rms on other amps? for instance the phoenix gold titanium series 1200.1 i'm going to get doesnt list a rms rating on there site Replies (9) ryan on 11/20/2003 20:02:14 For the iasca u multiply the rms by 2 when u have it bridge so that would give u around 100w when bridged. with the 1200.1 im asuming that its 1200w max so then u just divide it by 2 and it will put out around 600w rms. uochronos on 11/20/2003 20:24:41 ok then do i match the iasca wattage of my amp to the speakers or the max power lol i thought i understood this but starting to question it ryan on 11/20/2003 20:29:17 You will want to match the rms of ur amp to the rms on ur speaker. You dont necissarly need to do it this way (ex. You can have a bigger amp lets say 200w rms to a 100w rms speaker but u jsut want to take it easy on the amp gain so u dotn over power this speaker), but its a good rule of thumb so u dont over power ur speaker. uochronos on 11/20/2003 21:21:02 so when i get my 1200.1 Ti t phonix gold amp which is actualy rated at 1400 watts i want to find out its rms which is probaly 700? and match that to my speaker or i want to match the 1400 watts to my speakers? ryan on 11/20/2003 21:39:05 700w rms is correct and you will want to match that 700w with a speaker that has close to 700w rms. uochronos on 11/22/2003 11:32:24 OK i'm really confused now then... because Swez and i believe ttoc told me that the tantrum series 500.2 amp i have is more then enough amp for my 2 10" alpine type R's and that only puts out 500 watts when bridged and if what you say is right about 200 watts rms bridged... and the type r's can handle 300 whats each rms 1000 watts each max... now i dont want to get this phoenix gold 1200.1 Ti amp that puts out 1200 watts around ("600 watts rms" acording to you) at 12.2 volts and end up 1 blowing up my new speakers or 2 under powering new ones... i guess really i'm just confused on which is right. ryan on 11/22/2003 15:38:05 When i said 200w rms i was just using a # as an example sorry bout that. Post from earlier(ex. You can have a bigger amp lets say 200w rms to a 100w rms speaker but u jsut want to take it easy on the amp gain so u dotn over power this speaker). Your Tantrum 500.2 should be fine and yes it will put out 500x1. So stick with this amp. And in the future you think you need more power you can always get a bigger amp but for now stick with the 500.2. Sorry for all the misunderstanding. cplkittle on 11/22/2003 16:16:22 match everything as closely as you can- RMS, MAX, OHMS, and you will be set. Your bass should sound clean, if it gets distorted, you are pushing way too much or way too little. uochronos on 11/22/2003 16:20:35 Oh ok so when i get the 1200.1 Ti phoenix gold amp i'm going to want to get speakers that can take around 600 watts each then.. that was sort of what i was wondering in the first place hehe... just go confused and lost alot lol. thanks for all the help to btw Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
