HELP !!!! Have this new lapper you know... and am having troubles installing my ISP (Juno 5.0) to same. The system asks for a file named "DATA1.msi" but cannot locate that file on HD or install CD's. I checked in the Config.msi files but this file is empty. Did a file search too... no luck on HD or install CD. I have the reinstall disks (#1 is XP PRO and the other is Drivers) but I did not get the 25 digit software registration code for this software. Tried to overwrite the HD Win XP installed with the CD but when asked for the 25 digit code.... ain't gots it. ? Is there a way to obtain the Win XP registration number stored inside the Computer HD somewhere? It seems to me that it would be in a file somewhere... if I can just locate it, I can over install and hopefully get online before I leave for Florida... 11/18. Again... thanks for the help so far... my patience is getting short as I have spent hours trying to solve this one. I hate the thought of going back to AOL as this is installed already... Swez Replies (4) Munchiesyumm on 11/16/2003 19:33:45 Swez, Your one of many people who loses there code and basically get screwed. If you don't have a code for WinXP you cannot activate XP and in 30 days your computer will be locked. As for me, I'm poor and I never pay for anything software because I have no way to pay for it so I "liberate" it from people who have stolen it. I have codeless Win XP cd and have no codes that will work to activate a regular copy, sorry. You might want to ask the guy who you got the laptop from if he has the codes from the software cds the laptop came with. Xp is a tough one. Swez on 11/16/2003 19:58:22 Well, the original install is still in place and I was not able to overinstall XP from CD ROM disc w/o that code. I can still operate the computer as is... just cannot install the balance of of that missing file. Worst case, maybe I can "liberate" a copy of XP w/ reg codes and make a copy? Last resort, can purchase a New XP package in install that way.... Ohhh how I hate dinking around with a strange software glitch. Was getting pretty familiar with Win 98 SE... but now XP is a whole nother animal. Swez PS Thanks for the quick reply! audionewb on 11/17/2003 08:15:30 I know it's somewhere in the registry, but I have no idea where. If you just need the cd key for XP Pro there are alot of websites you can search for one. I don't know if I should post one here, but I have one you could use. That's if you aren't wanting to activate it of course, but I don't think you need to with XP Pro. Swez on 11/17/2003 08:29:05 As for that code in the registry, I hope that is correct. I just gotta believe there is one stored somewhere to match the CD installer package I have on hand. I traded this newer Dell Latitude C640 for my very old car and the software registration key was not noted in the stuff that came with it. It's less than 1 year old, barely used and in new condition... just missing some XP files to install/import my ISP account. Finally, my buddy is going to copy a CD w/ XP Office Pro and give me the Reg codes today... hope that fixes the problems I am having. The rest of the XP OS seems to be fine... just communications problem is all. Swez PS Thanks for the heads up! Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
