hey guys, having a few problems with my amp. the other day i went down the road listning to some tunes, not too loudly but all of a sudden my amp went into protect mode and shut off. after i turned it down it kicked back on. ever since this happened it has been doing it more often at lower volumes.my power cable isnt atached to my batt very well, if that has anything to do with it any help appreciated

thanks, murph

Some amps have a low voltage sensor and if it detects less than proper voltage, it will go into protect & shut off. Take care of that poor connection issue ASAP as it is hard on the amp to run in "under voltage" conditions too long.

Also, say more about the amp you have and the sub(s). Make and model #'s and how the subs are wired to the amp as well.

ah wont listen anymore until i take care of it. BTW,
two Audiobahn 10" AW1000Q's - each wired in parallel to a two channel Audiobahn A8002T amp (should be getting 400Wx2 @ 2 ohms). The subs are kept in a sealed 3/4" osb enclosure with around 1.00 cu.ft each.

Another thing, when i turn it up,i noticed sort of a squeeking noise coming from somewhere around the amp (which is right between both my subs, mounted on the box) so it could be coming from the box too. any ideas?

Thanks for all the help, murph

The AW1000Q is a 10", 4 ohm DVC sub. If you have the amp running in 2 channel mode and one sub to each channel, (each sub wired in parallel), that is the easiest way to get full power to subs.

If you bridged the amp MONO, each sub needs to be wired for 8 ohms (voice coils in series), then wire both subs to amp in parallel for a 4 ohm load.

The squeek... there may be a fan in there but other than that, no other moving parts to cause a squeek. Could the box be causing the squeek? If you have loose joints that are not secured with glue and nails or screws... that can cause a squeek.

Again, double check your power cable connections and RCA lines. Make sure all is tight.

Good luck,
Swez

PS OSB you say? Hummmm, hope you meant to say MDF.... OSB is not a very good box material. Not very dense, subject to internal voids etc. Your box may be the squeeker here.

yea swez, you caught me on that one.sorry i wasnt paying attention, i meant MDF, but i really dont think its coming from the box, i checked it over and had everything glued and screwed together tightly. its not very loud of a squeek, and not that big of a deal, i just noticed it one day when adjusting the amp and was concerned it might be a problem.

thanks, murph

had a similar problem with some aw100q's that I installed for a friend (protect mode) he had a dual sealed box, approx 1.25 cuft. ea. read the specs, and they called for .6min to 1.3 max. He wanted a custom box anyway, so I built him a box to exactly .8 cu ft out of 3/4 MDF. he was going to get a larger amp, but we tried his old one, the one that was cutting out, (db drive 800w) and eureka, no more amp problems. don't know if it was a bad connection or had something to do with the resistance of a smaller box, but it sounds really good now. I am thinking that maybe the spider had time to stretch out and the speakers were going beyond their xmax, and the smaller box reduced the excursion, but don't know how or if that affected the amp in any way.
..so for what its worth....
