ratings/performance chart

Has anyone ever seen any ratings or performance charts such as consumer reports would compile on the net? Looking for subs and sub amps compared by performance, not cost.
I tend to get frustrated looking for something online when all I get for results is "buy it here now!" pages. The net just isn't what it was 5 years ago.

Well, you're not going to find a 'CR' type of comparison, but your best bet would be to go to some places that have user reviews.

I like to read the opinions people write up on www.carreview.com, or epinions.com. It seems to provide a little more insight from people who actually have the product, rather than someone who is trying to sell it.

But realistically, trying to compare subwoofers is going to be nearly impossible, because what sounds/performs best for my tastes, in my truck, with the box I made, is going to sound/perform completely different than it will in your SUV, with the box you make, with your music, using your power, and to your ears.

If you give us an idea of the type of sound you are looking for, the price you are looking at, etc... we may be able to put together a sumarized version of what you are looking for, but it'd be from past experience, and what those of us who've been around quite a bit of equipment, can recommend.

Good luck with your search.

Agreed, there are no such compaison charts per-se that I am aware of and the ones I have seen did have certain bias toward one brand or another. We all do it as we recommend what we know, have or have heard in other peeps installs. Pretty subjective advice in all.

I too, tend to look at Mfgs specs and hype sheets with a jautice eye. Anything to sell a product... is what these ads are about. The Marketing department of any given company if given plenty of specs and detail from Engineering... but most Marketing guys have very little technical background and try to sell the "sizzle" instead of the taste... "rubber meets the road" details.

Facts don't sell products to most folks... but hype, testimonials and glitz (semi-naked ladies) tend to get more results. It's just the way Makers market their wares... sexy stuff gets attention!

Anyway... we can guide you into some well proven products.
