I'm building a bed. It's going to be the loudest bed around. The problem is how to power my PowerAcoustik: 2 12' subs, 1600W Amp, 4 6x9's, and the head unit...any ideas would be awesome. What I've come up with is using a regular car battery hooked up to a charger and then to the amp, or just the charger to the amp...plus if anyone can tell me exactly how to hook it all together ide really like that. ...i already got all of the components...im waiting till next simester to build the frame...its got chrome accents on all the edges....i might be gettin airride bags just to be funny....i just need POWER...someone help me out Replies (11) cplkittle on 11/14/2003 11:43:56 I am looking at the 1600w amp as the only draw that you have to worry about, and other than a battery, a 1.0 or 1.5 farad capacitor should be able to handle the surges. Eloompa11 on 11/14/2003 11:50:29 where can i get one of those...i know abut as much about audio as shaq knows about being small Tray on 11/14/2003 12:47:14 Let me get this straight. You are planning to install this equipment in/under a bed in your apartment/house/dorm, or other living quarters? If so, you may be heading down the wrong path. In order to power car audio equipment from a 110v source, you will need an extremely efficient power inverter. Something to the effect of 100 amps, or more, if you plan on powering anything other than the amp/HU with it. Although this is possible, the cost will be much higher than purchasing some quality home audio gear, which would work much better given the power source available. Eloompa11 on 11/14/2003 12:54:17 i understand that...cant i just like clip a car battery charger to it or something along those lines...where would i go about getting the power converter....... Tray on 11/14/2003 13:00:24 Well, I think you can order a power inverter from quite a few online shops. I don't remember any URLs for them, but a search of this forum would net you some links posted in the past for just this same scenario. Eloompa11 on 11/14/2003 13:02:08 thanks ill let you know what i find...this is a project for my Tech class......ive been saving up for a while and i want this ish to be PERFECT! Eloompa11 on 11/14/2003 13:17:13 i cant find any power inverters through a site search....i looked through google and i dont really know what to get...the power and all.. Tray on 11/14/2003 15:19:30 Well, I couldn't find it in the site search either. Must have dropped off since it's been a while. Anyway, this is the type of thing I am referring to. http://www.trianglecables.com/80amp12vdcre.html I am sure there are others out there, but you need to remember that you will need one which has an ampere rating at least equal to what the fuse on the amp shows, plus the rating of any additional equipment. (I can't recall for sure, but I'd guess a safe bet for your HU would be around 10amps). Eloompa11 on 11/14/2003 15:25:32 hmmm...ill see what i can come up wit....ill keep you notifide cplkittle on 11/14/2003 20:30:21 lol, and all this time I thought you were referring to the bed of a truck. I have tested audio systems inside (wrecked my car and missed my bass), so I hooked everything up in my bedroom... 6x9's and all. Killed a marine battery in about 15 minutes! and it is not safe to run it on a battery charger inside, but I think something along those lines is what you will need to keep this thing running unless you only have it on for 5 minutes at a time. I don't know of any power converters that will support that kind of draw. My only other idea is a battery bank similar to what powers electric golf carts ie 10-12 BAD A$$ batteries. Swez on 11/14/2003 21:37:32 The amp you mentioned... what is the fuse rating on that amp? The HU will draw less than 10A. in most cases. So that's nominal and no big deal. I did mention a product to a guy that wanted to bring his car system in doors and use it too. He checked out this product and bought it. He said it worked fine.
