I have heard alot of low watt punch amps really 'punch' the crap out of speakers well over the rms of the amp. Is this a trait only fosgate amps have or are there others out there that do the same? Replies (1) Swez on 11/13/2003 20:26:49 The older RF amps were made better than some of the new offerings to date. The older RF amps were often rated well below actual power output capability. (under rated @ ~12.5 volts to reach rated power) The newer amps are just the opposite... you need 14.4 volts input to get rated power on most of the new RF amps. WITH LESS THAN 13.0 VOLTS of input power... you are not getting the rated power the amp specs sheet states. (over rated) Many of the better amps will under rate their amps and produce more power than stated in the specs. The cheapo amps really go over board when rating their power claims. It not uncommon for some cheapo amps to boast 1000 watts output power, but then you look at the 1 x 25A. fuse and you know this is a lying sack of dog pucky spec.
