I have personally had no experience with clarion to say if yea/nea.

I think rather then looking for a "neat" looking stereo for her, we need to consider the ease of use... If she is anything like the girls I date, anything more then the factory radio is too difficult to use(vcr is still flashing 12:00 from the purchase 3 yrs ago). If I had to make a recommendation, I would probably say alpine. They have brought their prices down to a more competative level, and are very durable and easy to use.

The only other brand that I would recommend would be eclipse due to the lack of detachable face need. The ESN is pretty good to deturent to thefts without needing to remove the face. I know that I use my detachable face religously, but I have met few ladies that do...

cheers....

Ya "neat" is defiantly not something i need 100% but she doesnt want something that looks stock. fortunatly she isnt electronics illiterate like most other girls around. infact she is fairly good with car stereos. she has wired in a few stereos and amps herself infact. so complication isnt really a factor... her last stereo which got stolen. was the most comlicated sony i had ever seen infact drove me crazy how hard it was to even change the eq on it. but she loved it. i let her loose on the ZEB last night showed her about 5 stereos including the clarion i mentioned above and she found a few herself and she very much likes the clarion one the most. so if anyone has had or used one before any input on there sound quality and general use of them would be apreciated.

I looked at the specs on your link and I'd buy one if the price was right.

Refurbs... yes, especially if they have full factory warranties and are ~30% less than new price. A Great value buy!!! This HU has some nifty features and gadgits too. I like the parametric EQ, 2 channel Aux inputs on face, good voltage outs on preamps to other amps or DSP. The sub conrol on HU is a nice feature as is the HP/LF filtering as well.

Other brands to consider are Alpine, Eclipse and Pioneer Premier series. Bit if you get the right price on the Clarion Pro... looks like a winner to me.

DXZ835MP $399.00 is a good price for new
DXZ835MP#R at $200.00.... YES! a very good deal

As far as 'neat' goes, my vote goes to the JVC El Kameleon
http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL026840
It has the face that slides down, buttons fold up and retract on power off or cd load, 50w per channel max, with remote. and you can get the 12 disc changer for about $180. It just plugs right in to the HU, and you operate the changer with the HU.
