Hey there Computer Jocks... how much is this deal worth? Dell Inspirion 7000 Notebook (used) P II 333 Mhz 128 Mb Ram 13 Gb HD CD ROM 1.44 FD Add on 128 Mb Mem stick (USB) Power supply & Battery pack Qualcom Modem pack (33 Kbaud max.) Win 98 SE loaded What's a reasonable market price for this machine used? I assume it is about 4-5 years old and in good condition. Thanks in advance, Swez PS Sorry for the off topic ... but I need some help on this one. Replies (13) Buickman94 on 11/10/2003 21:46:01 I did some looking around on ebay, and found prices anywhere from $200-$300 for comparable notebooks, some higher. The fact that its a Dell is probably going to make it more expensive. 13gigs is also pretty big for a notebook that old too, thatll add some value to it as well. I would think that around $250sh sounds about right. I wouldnt pay more then 300. Have you checked out ebay yet? dflock on 11/10/2003 23:30:57 I would agree the pervious message. maybe even with a tops of $350, depending on the conditon of the monitor (scratches) and other wear and tear that the notebook might have taken. Do you know if this was a corporate or personal machine? _derek Relax_The_Mind on 11/11/2003 00:08:25 I wouldnt spend more than $250 on it Ive sold lappys much better (i dont have that hook up anymore, dont ask where i got them from or ill have to kill you...j/k) 2ghz celeron 256mb RAM 20gb cd/rw fd $400 The only thing really worth the most money is the lcd screen on it. You can get a much better laptop on ebay or other site for the same price. RTM Ill help you search if want. Swez on 11/11/2003 00:14:01 Thanks for the inputs guys. It's a personal lapper and I will have a chance to play with it this week so I'll know how well it functions, battery life, display and overall shape of unit. Am surprized at the really low prices you guys have mentioned and if I do buy it... will really low ball the price as I don't care if I get this or not. If he needs money bad enough... want to find out how badly he needs what am willing to offer.... NOT MUCH !!! (thanks to your inputs) HAPPY SWEZ USFLAG ttocs on 11/11/2003 12:11:50 300 mghz is just ancient. You will have alot of troubles using software that isn't old. What OS is on it? Swez on 11/11/2003 13:16:09 Is 333 Mhz P II chip set. Yes, the RAM is adequate and HD storage is a plus (14.0 Gb) but when I fired it up, the display was very hard to read in some parts of the field. May have some damage here. Also, the battery pack is probably pretty old too and will not last too long w/o using the charger or A/C adapter. Also noted the latches to lock the screen to main keyboard is not working. That's not cool! It may have been dropped a few times and latches are out of alignment. It has Win 98 SE on it now and I prefer that OS as I am most familiar with same. But darn slow loading , as ttocs said. I am laughing on the outside. But on the inside, feel MAD like a real "screw job" from a so called "good friend" . Man, you think you know someone and help them when they are down... He wants $900.00 or trade for my Olds Trofeo'... in his dreams... Thanks for the inputs guys... I appreciate an honest mans' insights! Swez Buickman94 on 11/11/2003 21:55:35 Glad to hear you didnt go for it, $900 is just outragious! Typical Swez, trying to help someone when they need it...and they try to screw you over. Thats just flat out wrong, i cant stand people that try to take advantage on others like that...pretty damn low. ttocs on 11/11/2003 22:04:15 my ex-girl might be interested in selling hers, which is similar? Buickman94 on 11/11/2003 22:35:21 If swez isnt interested, i might be. All i need is something that i can hook up to my stereo and use as an mp3 player. Pinch on 11/11/2003 22:49:18 Swez, It sounds like you've already gotten some good advice on this already, but I just wanted to show you something I found to throw my 2 cents in. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/featured_inspn2?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs That laptop is a much better buy for around the same price. It has a MUCH better operating system (I am an XP fan), a processor which is several times faster, more ram, and a DVD/CD combo drive. Good luck! Pinch Swez on 11/12/2003 11:37:40 Thanks guys.. your inputs are very much appreciated. This picture has a new twist... I gave him back his P-II and said Not Interested. He paid too much and I was not interested in the deal. Now, he comes back with a sweeter deal: More tempting this time Dell Latitude Series Model: C640 Intel P-IV 2.0 Ghz Mobo speed 30 Gb HD 256 Mb RAM 24 x CD ROM/swappable 1.44 FD Win XP Professional Installed Condition: Like new in a box, barely used (New 4/03) 1 USB port 2 PC Card slots Stereo audio, Microphone jacks, Docking station output, S-link OK, the magic question... what is this worth? Comments? Swez PS If I push him a bit harder, can probably get a soft carry case, 256Mb USB Mem stick and the PC Comm card too. Buickman94 on 11/12/2003 13:43:21 I would say around $900-$1000, give or take . Here are some similar ones on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3440563192&category=42201 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3440513348&category=42201 Swez on 11/12/2003 17:13:51 Thanks Buick, This lapper is right in line with what I am willing to do a deal on. I may need to get his purchase papers to get a warrantee transfer, but other than that, this machine is in like new condition. The only files he put on this one were pics from his Digi-cam. Other than that, it's prestine. New, this machine sold for ~$1,700 according to Dell web site. So I figure a good used price for like new is worth the swap... my Olds for this lapper. In this case, I feel a little like I'm shortchanging him a bit though. I did look at both your e-bay links and this machine is right in the middle of the two. So I feel $1000.00 is a fair exchange.
