New to this forum, looks like a very good one! My question is this. Will my Zapco Ref350 amp rated @ 330 watts bridged @4 ohms (probably more, Zapco's are understated) be enough to power an Elemental Designs 12A in a sealed box? I don't care about SPL, I just want great tight/low bass and I know Ed's are rated highly. Would I be better off with 1 or 2 10A's? What do you recommend? Sub's are going in the back of a 2 door Tahoe. Thanks, looking forward to your reply! Replies (2) cplkittle on 11/11/2003 09:12:48 My rule of thumb is to use an amp rated atleast 25% over the peak power of the subs combined, that way you are sure to have enough power to push your subs, and get better sound quality because your amp isn't working as hard. I have heard subs perform well, under their rms. if your speakers sound bad or your amp is hot enough to cook eggs, you probably need a larger amp. Swez on 11/11/2003 09:56:41 Here's the specs and MSRP on ED's A series sub: Driver Name : e12A.22 Available Voice Coils : Dual 2 ohm Recommended Power Range : 750/1400 watts Recommended Applications : Sealed / Vented Rec. Box Sizes : Sealed (.7-1.2cF), Vented (1.4-1.8cF) Current Price : $295.00 Good drivers, well rated by others I know both here and on a different forum. Not sure what your real cost might be, but a single 12" sub is all you need (can use) with that amp due to voice coil ohms setup. (1 or 4 ohms only) If you want sealed with good lows, go toward the larger end of the box spec range. (0.9 - 1.2 cf internal) Can show you a different sub that offers plenty of power handling, very good SQ but can get pretty decent SPL too at less than half the price. I made a custom sealed enclosure with a pair of these and they sounded very good at moderate and high power input. (200 - 600 RMS) It's a plain Jane looking sub, but Adire put performance ahead of looks on this model. That's what counts... the sound, not looks. Have a look: http://www.adireaudio.com/mobile_audio/drivers/shiva.htm $125.00 This is a DVC version, 4/8/16 ohm and rated for ~350 RMS. In a sealed enclosure (1.0 - 1.25) you have some full bass and very good SQ. For this price, I have found no other subs that can touch the performance, price and value in this above average SQL sub. (SQ & SPL) Zappco amp is a very good amp and when bridged Mono, you will have a tad more power than rated as they do under rate their amps. Comments? Swez PS In your search, stick to a 4 ohm SVC sub or 2+2 DVC with power ratings of 300-500 RMS. A single quality sub is all you will need for this power rating.
