Car: 1999 Chevy Suburban 2500 I was thinking about buying a couple of v-max 12's to put in my car. I was wondering how these are compared to other subs. Thanks Replies (7) Swez on 10/30/2003 11:44:02 CV has made some pretty potent subs and has been in th biz for a long time too. They also make HT and Pro Audio speakers. So, lots of experience in heavy duty drivers for bass applications. In past years, the "Stroker" series dominated SPL COMPS for many years. However, today there are so many great subs on the market, you have a lot of choices. Also, these V-Max 12's are rated at 300 RMS and come in SVC/DVC designs. For ~$160.00 a pop, there are better drivers out there. More power, higher SPL etc. The technical data on the CV website is very light on details for this series. More hype than facts so that suggests they are hiding behind their brand name and not performance. I have not heard them, but can think of other subs that will deliver more bang for your money... depending on what you want to do in this system. Swez Pinch on 10/30/2003 12:36:16 For closer to $140 a piece, I would recommend the Alpine Type-R. So far, these are my favorite "mass market" subs. They can handle a lot of power (I feel they are underrated as far as what they can handle), come in 2 or 4 ohm DVC design (for wiring flexibility), and sound great. Nothing I've heard yet at my shop can top what they bring to the table (dollar for decibal). Pinch Swez on 10/30/2003 19:38:03 Agreed... Alpine type R is a very good SQ/SPL sub and very well priced too. I also like the Infinity Kappa or Perfects as well. They are also very good SQ/SPL subs, come in SVC or DVC versions too. Have a look: http://www.justwoofers.com/Woofer_Pages/Infinity/ infinity_Kappa.htm http://www.justwoofers.com/Woofer_Pages/Infinity/ infinity_KappaPerfect.htm Another option for great SQ and SPL with a low price is the Shiva Mark III: http://www.adireaudio.com/mobile_audio/drivers/shiva.htm $125/ea. TWK0000 on 10/31/2003 00:20:57 thanks..........i was thinking about putting the two subs in a dual 12 1.25cu ft. box........i was wondering how i should go about amping the subs. I was thing two mono amps, i'm not sure if i should do that or get a 2 channel channel amp........thanks again Swez on 10/31/2003 09:02:48 A Dual 12, @ 1.25 cf sealed will work well for all subs mentioned earlier. Not sure on the CV sub... no box specs or T/S parameters on that web site so cannot tell what size enclosure they recommend. As for amping a pair... a single channel (MONO) amp is the most efficient and cost effective way to go, depending on the subs you choose. Class D mono amps are powerful, relaible and very efficient. Meaning... for every 100 watts of output power, the amp only needs 110 watts of input power consumption. (eff % ~ 90%) A 2 channel amp is much lower efficiency. For every 100 watts it puts out, it will draw ~ 150 watts. (eff% ~55-60%) Finally, we can make some amp recommendations to you, once you have chosen the subs you desire. Need to match the power ratings, ohms loading of the subs, to the amp you will use. Swez TWK0000 on 11/1/2003 04:25:50 Thanks.......i'll hopefully soon decide on the subs and i'll post a new thread then..........thanks Swez on 11/1/2003 07:04:57 Fair enough...
