I just bought a 92 tahoe but i hate the dash in it, I also have a 98 silverado with a dash I like is there anyway that i can swap the 92 dash for a newer one. I know a guy that owns a junk yard so finding a newer dash will not be hard. I'm just wondering if nebody has heard of doing this swap or knows if it can be done Replies (7) Swez on 10/28/2003 23:36:34 Hummm, you are asking a lot on this one.... You'd need the wiring diagrams for each vehicle dash system and there is no sure bet the ECM/BCM are compatible. That's the function side of things. Then, you have the form & fit issues to deal with... this may not be the right forum to help you. Swez ttocs on 10/29/2003 02:02:05 do they look similar? bobbi-digi on 10/29/2003 03:43:32 I've often considered just stripping the whole plastic/vinyl action of my dash right off and fabricating one of my own design.... However that mod. seems a little overboard for my beat-up Jeep, so for now I'll wait to try that out... triumph1902 on 10/29/2003 03:37:38 They look totally different. The 92 is a lot more square and old style while the 98 is more rounded modern looking dash. Also the instrument clusters are totally different. Now the good news is that all the wiring of that dash ends with about 7 smaller connector and one major one which are all located at the upper left corner of the fire wall. I believe the plugs can be reached from the engine compartment. The bad news is that I am almost certain that the wiring of the 92 differs from the 98. So most of the wiring and connectors should be different but you can check to make sure. Even if the connectors or wire colors seem somewhat similar the 92 and 98 are two different trucks with different engines, computers, and clusters. The 92 might even have a mechanical speedo (not sure on that). So from my experience this would not be a worthwhile conversion. bobbi-digi on 10/29/2003 03:58:32 Yes, if you are able to pull off this switch there would probably be a decent amount of work involved.... ....or, there is always the option of covering the offensive dash entirely in super fuzzy shag carpeting. (I'm kidding). DINGALING on 10/29/2003 15:44:02 OH! i was at a local car show recently (my first show i've attended, yay), and i noticed that quite a few people had enclosure carpet on their dashes. what's up with this? i looked 'OK' i guess, but it wasn't like there was only one or two cars like this, it was like 20 out of 250... -DINGALING Swez on 10/29/2003 17:44:08 A lot cheaper than replacing a cracked dash unit?
