4v vs. 6v

the new pioneer has 6volt outputs as opposed to my kenwood that had 4volt. my question is does that really make a difference? i noticed that i was able to turn the gains on my amps up without the distrotion that the kenwood would give at the same gain lvls. does the 6 volts supply a clearer signal or what is the real advantages of having that. the whole idea of gain setting is to match the output from the HU without clipping the amp isnt it or am i wrong?

That's basically it in a nutshell. We try to match the HU output signal voltage to amp input setting. There is some lattituded on adjustment of the amp gains, but keeping them close to the voltage ratings on the HU will get the most from the amp and lowest possible distortion and extranous noise.

As for 4 VS 6 volt HU's... you get a stronger signal off the HU with a 6 volt output with less noise getting into the system. This is called: Signal to Noise ratio. (S/N ratio) We shoot for high signal and low noise to get the best results.

Finally, there probably is not a big difference in S/N ratio in a 4 VS 6 scenario. If you were going from a 2 volt to 6 volt system, that might be a major difference to consider and upgrade. A 4 volt system is pretty good... while 2 was he norm a few years back.
