i have decided to go against the 4 15s right now. but i want to build a new ported box. the ports have to be 2-3/4"x15-1/2"x25-3/4" long. i want to make the ports come out in the center between the subs since the box is in the area where my back seat was, and the subs fire right into the back of the front seat. if i port them out the middle maybe that will make a difference. i was wondering if you know a site or maybe someone could walk me through the process. i was figuring 3.5 to 4.0 cubic feet per sub. the mesurments i have to work with are, 46"Lx22-25"Wx20-23"H. or if somebody could maybe draw a diagram with the wood lenghts on it, and e-mail it to me, that would be wonderful, but if you dont want to take the time and mess around with that i would understand. not in any real big hurry would just like to have it sometime. e-mail is jakehintz@insightbb.com and for anybody that may help the subs are kicker comp vr 15 inch model. and i would like a wiring terminal for each sub. thanx very much, and if that dont work out properly i may just have to cough up the 200 or more for the stereo shop to build it. kicker calls for the slot ports if thats any help. Replies (3) Swez on 10/23/2003 19:05:58 Look at the SUB Zone Vented boxes for Kicker Comps. Get the dimensions and replicate the box as it will fit in your ride. May have to adjust H,D, W a tad... but the port will be the same volume and dimensions if you keep the same size enclosure CF the same . HERE: http://www.subzoneusa.com/kicker_vr.htm Note the vent design? center vent/divider are same until the "L" splits at the rear part of each chamber? A little reverse engineering here... Swez compvr15s on 10/23/2003 20:21:38 ok ive came up with 3.58 cubic feet internal roughly with out the port. the dimensions external are 40x20x20. pretty simple numbers, all can go larger in needed. as for the port how do i do that, since kicker says 15.25 hight but im 20, do i compensate with the length or how exactly do i do that. also was wonderin about tuning. i dont have a clue what that even consists of, is that affected by the port size, and if so what would be the best lenght as best frequency for these subs. i like deep hard hitting bass. have to goto dinner right now, i will keep searching for other designs on the internet. thanx alot swez. youve been a big help so many times. Swez on 10/24/2003 06:09:22 I was digging through the .pdf files for Kicker Comp VR subs and came across this file on design and building vented enclosure. As I mentioned before, the shape of the box is not that important. It's the total internal volume minus sub displacement (0.15 cf/sub)and port dimensions and dispacement (0.62/0.64 cf) that matter most. This .pdf has vented recommendations starting on page 10. This is almost a waveguide design combined with a vent. For your application, the "STREET MACHINE" version will probably be your best choice for deep bass, but the compact design may be right for physical space available in your ride. GOTO: http://www.kicker.com/images/manuals/ CompVRTechManualV2_1.pdf Page 15 of this .pdf give the port install options while page 10 gives the port dimensions for the box size you choose. In your case, 3" x 15" x 22.5" seems to be the target for "street machine bass" enclosures. (~45 Hz peak SPL) This is a 4.0 cf enclosure plus port and sub displacements. That makes your total box externally, >10.0 cf. Huge box man!!! The present box you mentioned (40x20x20) = 9.25 cf external and your internal dimensions are more like ~6 cf... (3.0 per sub) This is more like the compact vent series. Here, your vent dimensions are: 2.75" x 15" port, 25.75" long (~55 Hz peak SPL) You may wish to contact Kicker Technical for more details on port design info, based on the net internal dimensions of the box. There are cut lists and more details on later pages. (28,29) that include port displacement numbers and Fb (tuning specs on the ports) per box dimensions. Swez PS This is a very long .pdf file... 36 pages. If you have cable, it may DL fast. I have a modem and it's taking a long time to DL this file. I just spent 1.5 hours digging this all up... Geez O Peas.... slow cable DL's Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
