Hi, I just found this site today and i think it is great, and there are a lot of good opinions. So I was wondering whether someone could tell me which model Audiobahn subs ( 3 of them) would be best for a 93 Accord, or something comparable. Thanks, Trevor Replies (6) Swez on 10/17/2003 09:14:09 Can you spell out a general plan of what you intend to do, the type of music you like most and a rough budget for your gear? In order to chose a good sub, we need to know what amp you intend to use, how much space you have for the sub enclosure and how much power draw from the amp, your cars' electrical system can tolerate. Swez Aqualus on 10/17/2003 13:47:56 Ok, I plan on first getting my HU ( Alpine CDA-9815 ), im going to run 3 amps ( Audiobahn, 1 for the components and midrange drivers, 1 for 2 subs, and 1 powerhouse for one sub.) As for the wiring im going to have 4G off of my Optima Batt, then run to a 3 farad cap, then continues to a dist block, splits into three 8G going to each amp. I plan on spending as much as it takes, I listen to rap, techno, and rock. I was kinda hoping u could help me with the choosing of the amps to, so thats y I listed what the amps are gonna be running. Trevor Swez on 10/17/2003 19:28:34 Trevor, One thing you need to understand... having a smaller car with a small electrical system can be a long & expensive process. Depending on how much power you have in the ALT/BAT, will determine the size amps you can run with a stock system. If you are looking for mega-bass, one has to consider how many amperes of current each amp will pull and match the amps to what you have or be willing to upgrade the electrical system a lot. A 15 farad CAP won't help if you have 2000 watts of amping power and 65 ampere alternator etc. Same thing with your subs and Comps... they too need enough amping power to get them up to speed. All these things come into play, so we have to think things through... before we dive in. 1. Do you know what size ALT & BAT are in your car now? 2. Are you able and willing to spend some serious $$ on power supply upgrades? 3. How many watts are you planning for the COMPS, dual subs and the powerhouse sub mentioned. Finally, the Optima battery will help a lot if ~800 CCA rating or higher... but depending on the amps you choose, may need a much larger wire gage and ALT to support all your amps. Comments? Swez Aqualus on 10/17/2003 22:06:29 I have an 80 amp ALT, and my Optima battery is the blue top which only pushes out 750 CCA. Now that u metion it would it be better for me to go with just 2 amps for the subs and run the comps and midrange via HU? Swez on 10/17/2003 22:52:38 You can do that, but will be very bass heavy in this way. To get the most balance out of a system, Comps sound much better when they are amped close to their RMS power value. As for subs, why do you want so many subs and sub amps? A lot cheaper to use 1 or 2 quality subs and one Class D amp for your sub system. Class D amps use less current than 2 channel bass amps. A well matched set of subs and a single amp can bump your wheels off. Unless you are planning to go into SPL COMPS, this is an intelligent way to go. The box and sub combination, along with adequate amping power make all the difference. Finally, your ALT and BAT are not a bad start. Your car will need ~30 amperes to operate properly. That gives you 50-65 amps of current for amplifiers. If you go with larger amps and really push them hard a lot, something will have to give eventually. Usually the ALT will die first. Care to rethink you plan a bit more and then get a budget on what you wish to spend. then we can show you some options that will meet the criteria you select.
