Building Component Speaker Enclosure

I'm building an enclosure for my JL XR650-CSi component speakers. I since removed them from my car and now i play to use them in my dorm room. However, since they are of infinite baffel design, the box should be sealed correct? What else should i keep in mind when building these enclosures? Also, where can i buy MDF? I would prefer to use that over plywood. I also plan to use dynamatting inside the box, I'll prolly mount the crossover outside of the box on top. Does anyone have any experience or advice with this?

you can get mdf at home depot. If you have demensions they will cut the wood for you for $.50 a cut. I would just seal them in a small box. Most 8's are rated at .5 cu ft or less, these would not require much.... Dynamatting would not make an audible difference really..

Yes, no need to dynamat them... maybe 1/2 pound of polyfill or fiberglass batting, but that's about it. Since this is a very small enclosure, 1/2" MDF is fine.

As for crossovers, just mount the on back wall of box... inside or outside is your choice.

As far as inside the box, there are a variety of dampening agents that come in a spray can which may be a cleaner and easier way to seal up the inside the box.

Lightning Audio DeadSkin is one...

NoiseKiller Blue is a similar product.

Word, and I'd definately put the crossover inside the box.
No need to have it lying about where it can get dusty/damaged/disconnected more easily.

The tech from JL Audio said i should make the enclosures as big as possible because it IB. I'll look into the spray...the spray is sprayed in before the speaker and such are installed but after the holes are cut for the speakers yes? Also, what exactly is poly fill?
