Ok here is the deal. I am building a new box for my car. You probraly figured that out from the title. Right now i have two 10' sony xplod subs (http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/1268) and a 760 watt xplod amp (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3053005649&category=39745). I need to know the dimensions on what since box do you think i need. i am using wood for this box. I need to know the thickness of wood and what type of wood you would prefer. I really don't want a large box that takes up my whole trunk. If anyone can help me just reply back. This would really help. If anyone could i need this by this weekend. I don't want to be rushy but this would help. Thanks

use mdf board. as for thickness dont go no less than 1/2 inch preferably 3/4. then figure probably .75 -1.0 cubic feet internal each. make sure you divide the subs with a board down the middle so you have 2 sealed boxes in one.

Yes definately use 3/4 inch Medium Density Fiberboard if possible.

Correct volume is more important than it's normally given credit for - for those subs you want .75 - (12''x12''x9'' works - interior dimensions, per sub)

Have fun~~~

Digi gave you a good start and yes, 3/4" MDF is the preferred box material. Light weight, (compared to std. partical board) Very dense, easy to cut and shape too. Just be sure to use plenty of glue on your joints as the glue is what holds the box together, not so much the nails or screws.

The box size noted can be adjusted for your space requirements to a degree... but the bottom line target is ~0.75 -1.0 cf (internal) per sub. You can adjust the width and depth to a degree, but the front baffle board has to be large enough to mount your subs properly.

A dual 10 box should have a center divider panel between the subs so that each sub has its' own sealed chamber.

Finally, you overall height (sub panel mounting plate) should be no less then 12". That nets a 13.5" over all external height. Your width dimension will need to be 12 + 12+ (3/4" x 3) or 26.25" (externally)for the top and bottom panels of the sub min. The depth of the box will be approximately 10.25" (external)

So, your external/internal dimensions overall will be:

EXTERNAL: INTERNAL:

H = 13.5" H = 12"
W = 26.25" W = 24"
D = 10.25" D = 9.0"

2.10 ^ft (E) 1.50^ft (I) = 0.75 ^ft per sub

NOTE: In sealed applications, it is best to use ~50% (3/4 lbs) of poly fill per chamber. This will give you good deep bass and less cone distortions.

Hope this helps,

Swez
