yes they are 1 ohm stable, buy you get no wattage gain, well, on the 1200.1 you get 1400 watts, but i dunno about the 600.1. just make sure you have a nice alternator as it will be pulling a lot of current with that size of an amp. an alternative to JBL would be MTX, they have some nice amps for fairly reasonable prices, i personally own the 6500D and I am very pleased with it, and my JBL p80.4 is nice too, those are probably the two best companies where you will get the best amp for the buck. but it wouldnt hurt to just save up the extra money and go JL, i dont want to sound like everyone else out there, but you will be able to hear the difference, JL amps are very nice, and i am currently waiting for my 300/4 to be shipped, i love JL products, everyone says JL is the best, but there are companies that are better, but u gotta be willing to pay the price, adire(which has been experiencing some reliability issues as of late) is a good choice, Onyx audio is good, and arc is good too. just remember, there is always something better that you can get with a little(or a lot :-D) more money.

good luck

Take a look at Elemental Designs. In my opinion they offer some of the best bang for the buck on the market. Their website is www.edesignaudio.com

Before recommending any products, would like to know more about your friend's audio goals... YES, I SAID GOALS! And what vehicle he is installing into.

To hit a target, you must have a clue what that target (goal) is.

Things to consider are:

1. How much $$ is he willing to "invest"?
2. How much amp power is he looking for?
3. How much space does he have for a sub enclosure?
4. How many ampere alternator and battery CCA rating does he have now?
5. Able/willing to build his own enclosure and do the install work himself?
5. Will he be upgrading the interior system speakers and maybe adding an amp later?

Knowing these general parameters, we can make some value oriented recommendations. See, knowing the working perameters of his intended system and his budget, can build a nice system (over time) to have a real value-based investment in quality audio products.

Finally, all products mentioned already are very nice gear. Some are very inexpensive, but very good value. Just lack some of the electronic toys some may prefer or desire. Others are top notch, have lots of nice features... but less bang for the buck. Depends on his budget and level of power he wants to run. Can always buy an stipped down amp now, and add toys if/as needed later.

FYI: All JBL Class D amps... BD 150.1, 300.1, 600.1 & 1200.1 are rated for 1 or 2 ohm operation. The output power is the same either way. However, these amps are rated with 12.9 volts supply power. Very conservative ratings here, which actually nets ~10-15% higher power output than specs, if electrical system can sustain a typical 13.4 volt supply. Most American cars can and same with many Imports.

Say more on the items above... then we can take it from there,

Swez
