Hi. I have a '98 Chevrolet Malibu. When I bought the car in March, the owner before me had a 2000 Sony Explod CDX-C7000X (remote included) with Sony Explod 6 x 9 speakers already installed. They chose not to keep these. This was handy for me because that meant that I wouldn't have to go out and buy everything myself. Nothing has gone wrong with the deck until about 2 weeks ago. I now find that when I turn on the radio, no sound will come out unless I turn the volume all the way up. When I turn it to the CD, everything sounds great. I would be quite greatful if someone could help me out. Thanks. Pinch on 10/9/2003 12:03:47 Try pulling the radio out and seeing if the antenna wire is securely plugged into the back of the deck. It sounds like the HU is getting a weak signal from the antenna. Swez on 10/9/2003 18:05:21 Yes, clean your antenna lead in wire to the HU and also at the antenna connection point and see if that improved you FM signal and performance. Some light sanding or a wire brush should do it and maybe a light coat of WD-40 lube to preven additional corrosion or oxidation on the leads. This is common in older cars or cars with high milege, but if a trunk mounted antenna, some moisture can get into the lead attach plug and cause these kinds of problems.
