| 4 channel ampby compvr15s Front Page * FAQ Forum * Archive Index Prev :: Nextwhich amp would you guys recommend to run a set of mtx 6x9's (2003) model and a set of alpine 6.5" 2way speakers. rms is 50watts on 6x9s and 30watts on 6.5s. i dont want anything with high current pull becuase my two kx 600's are pulling enough power now. id prefer not mtx tho, i need something that wont overheat. hopefully resonable priced too thanx guys. Replies (3) Swez on 04/6/2003 11:29:20 Consider the US Acoustics amps. They come in 2 flavors... 65 and 85 watts RMS per channel and both are under $200.00. Here's a link to have a look: http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/us_acoustics.html "Are you looking for an affordable, versatile amplifier that will meet your needs today and for years to come? Look no further. The U.S. acoustics USX MOSFET Series amps have everything you need and leave room to grow. Producing less than 0.01% THD, the USX MOSFET Series compete with amps that cost over double the price. Rated at 12.9V input, you can rest assured that these amps will do everything they say and much more. All USX MOSFET series amps are bridgeable, so they can be easily configured to meet your needs." USX4065 Amplifier - 65x4 @ 4ohm - 320 watts RMS total $122.99! USX4085 Amplifier - 85x4 @ 4ohm - 480 watts RMS total $172.99! For the speakers you mentioned, the USX-4065 is a good option. Just be sure to use your gains wisely. Don't want to blow out your drivers... or upgrade the 6.5" drivers later. A set of Comps up front are generally superior to Coaxials in power, SQ and quality of materials. Swez PS I have a USX-4065, Polk 5/4" Comps in front doors, a hefty pair of generic 6x9's in rear. Just waiting for warm weather to arrive, so I can install this amp and wiring kits. Am using JBL DA-1002B for subs (300 RMS) and a pair of DVC, Sound Stream SPL 10's. Not a huge bumper here... but more into SQ and clean, balanced SPL across the whole audio band. Plenty of bass now. Just want more SPL interior fullrange power to get more total balance and headroom w/o excess strain on the HU amps. compvr15s on 04/6/2003 11:54:29 thanx alot swez. im looking at them right now and the 4065 is probably the one ill go with. i got another question tho, i know them 6.5s have tweeters on them already but i also have a set of mb quart tweeters that i custom mounted into the arm rests on each passange and driver door.is there a way i can run them out the same power going to my 6.5s. i paid more for the tweeters than any of the the other interior speakers. or do i have to have a power running them. i dont know much bout tweeters, are they 2ohm 4ohm or are they not rated like that. thanx again Swez on 04/7/2003 17:47:01 It depends on the tweeters that were installed. As long as they have a filter cap (protect against lows) you can usually connect them in parallel to your existing 6.5 Coaxials w/o any harm, then power both off the front channels of your new amp. Then run your 6x9's off the rear channels. As for setting your amp filters, start with ~80 Hz. If there is too much bass excursion or added distortions due to low bass, can move the filter higher... say 100-120 Hz. Then set your sub amp to same and the subs will fill in the rest, MBQ may use 4 or 8 ohm tweeters, depending on the model #. Either way, run them in parallel with front Coaxials and all should be fine. Just watch your gain setting for the weakest speakers. No blown drivers here OK. Swez PS This technique you mention, is called an ambient tweeter install. Probably added a new dimension of cleaner, louder highs to your front stage. Good move! |
