Okay, I've been looking to get a subwoofer system for less than 700... I found the 12" MA Audio Subwoofer Model MA12XE (2 for $110) and a MA Audio Amplifier Model HK1997 with this set up i could get 300W each sub at 4ohms... will this be a good setup??

MA Audio did make some very nice gear. I am not 100% on this, but believe they sold out or closed their manufacturing last year or so. This may make it difficult to get a warrantee repairs if you ever needed same.

Does anyone have any specifics on this to confirm they went under or not?

PS I'd still buy them as I am not hard on my gear. Have not blown an amp or subs ever.... so use the gear as designed and you should be OK.

Typically if you're dealing with web retailers, warrantee does not apply anyway. Otherwise, if it is a brick and mortar location, they would be required to replace faulty equipment with equivalent, so you should be covered on that aspect as well.

I can't beleive you've never blown anything up Swez. I've had a bad sub, two bad component sets, and bad HU or two. None of them have been my fault, just got "lucky" with the bad product out of the bunch.

No it's true Tray... in many years of this game, I have never had a sub blow, amps fry or speakers die on me.

One caviet... I did get a very old pair of MTX 10's from my brother a few years back and they were in terrible shape already. The foam surrounds were disintegrating and I patched them up as best I could with contact cement and fabricated my own surround bandaids. They held up for a good while but finally the cones released from the baskets. Just fatigue and old age (like me) hehe... but the voice coils were still intact before I put them to rest an the round file and bought a set of Soundstream 10's. They have been bumping out the bass for over 3 years w/o a flaw.

Yeah, we do get bad products from time to time right out of the box, but I have never cooked a woofer or toated an amp yet. Guess I'm just lucky. (Knock on my wooden head !)

Wow, all hail the mighty Swez.

I guess I must just mess with things too much.

dang, swez. i've been in the game like 3 monthes, and i've already had a messed up deck, and a messed up amp... either you are very lucky, or we're very unlucky :(

Hehe , you guys are so funny! SMILE

Naw, I'm just lucky in that way and I don't let others monkey with my gear unless they know what they are doing.

After a few years of Pro Audio installs, ya kinda get a feel for the limits of the gear and stay well into the safety zones and limits of very expensive speakers and amps etc.

I have a good mentor... my brother Dale. He's been in Pro gear installs for over 20 years and knows the value of replacing very expensive tweeters or midrange horns & woofers. They ain't cheap and he is... so he knows how to keep his install repair fees under control.... take the volume knob out of the equation... so the DJ or Sound Engineer cannot abuse the system. Limiters, clipping indicators and compression circuits help a lot.

Swez lol
