Help for New System

I've been skimming the forum's here, and have come up with a couple rough ideas already, but I'd like to see what everyone thinks.

At first I was going to go for the JL 12w6v2's, but then saw a post about the Shiva's being about as good. My question about this is, where can I purchase the Shiva's? I went to the link, and only saw prices, but no ordering info(probably just missed it).

I have a 99 Blazer and was wondering if you guys thought I'd have room for 3 12's and if 3 Shiva's would be a nice idea. I'm really not knowledgeable at all in the car audio area, so I'll just ask, do they have plenty of bump?

If I do have enough room and the shiva's will give good bump, what kind of amp should I look at?

I know I'm asking alot, but like I said, I'm not knowledgeable at all with systems. I looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

A follow up question:

Would two Tempest 15's be better than 3 Shiva 12's? Since posting my original message, I've read some good things about the Tempest.

You can buy adire stuff directly from there here:

http://www.adireaudio.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=AA&Category_Code=2000

as far as the tempest its basically a bigger shiva.

when deciding between 2 tempests vs. 3 shivas, there are a few things to consider:

2 tempests will give you an easier impedence to work with, have more cone area, and cost you less. On the other hand, they will need more power and larger boxes.

whichever route you go, i would look into the jbl1200.1 amp, best bang for your buck hands down.

Will I have enough room in the back of my blazer for 3 shiva's(the way I'm leaning)?

Well each sub needs around 1-1.5 cubic feet of airspace in a sealed box, so take some measurements...

That can work if you have an amp that can take a 1.3 ohm net load.

Shiva's and Tempest are both 4/8/16 ohm DVC's. If you wire 2 in full parallel, that nets a 2 ohm load to amp. If you added a 3rd sub in parallel, now you have 1.3 ohms. 4/3 = 1.33 ohms.

The JBL Power series amps will do 1 or 2 ohm loads with same output power. If you go for the 1200.1, you'll get ~450 RMS to each sub... NOT ALL BAD! That's a very good power range for the Shiva Mark III's

As for the enclosure, Sealed would be the smaller box and you are looking at +5cf externally to get a 1.25cf/chamber x 3. This sucker will be large and very heavy when completed. Make sure you have a separate chamber for each sub whether 2 or 3 subs used. So if you choose that route, have a friend help you build and install it. HEAVY DUTY BOX!

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'm going to go with the 3 and hope they fit(and if they don't, I'll just resell one).

Swez, I'm definately going to have a friend help me, because I know nothing about this stuff. I have no idea what your post said(lol).

I may actually go with the 2 15's. I wasn't thinking of the wheels, between them I only have about 3 feet. Is that enough room for the 2 15's?

Measure the back of ur blazer. You'll need more then 30" to work with.

Sorry, do not mean to give info that you did not understand... but yes, if this is your first attempt at such, defintely get some help from somebody that knows a bit about this stuff.

Note: If you use a pair of 15's, you'll need at least 36" in width and 17-18" in H. The rest you can make up the proper air space by changing the "D" dimension.

When you decide which way to go, keep hitting the board for assistance.

Thank you all for all the help. I'll have to measure tomorrow to get an exact number to make sure I have 36". I just did a rough estimate today.

"Sorry, do not mean to give info that you did not understand"

No problem at all. All the help you guys have given me is greatly appreciated.

"When you decide which way to go, keep hitting the board for assistance."

I definately will.
