I have a 03' extended cab F150 and i am looking to replace the 4 door speakers that i have. I am pretty sure that they are 6x8" right now and since i have little knowledge on what would fit or what is good out there...i was looking for a point in the right direction. I plan on eventually revamping the entire system so i am looking for some crips, clean sounding speakers that will take care of what i need. i plan on adding a sub or two in the near future. i dont need the best of the best but i would like something that is better than average and doesnt cost me an arm and a leg. so spending a couple hundred hopefully will get me there. i also have a pioneer deh p650 deck that was in the car when i acquired it. i am not opposed to getting a new HU but i would rather not spend the extra money if i dont have to... you help is greatly appreciated! SMILE Replies (28) swez on 07/28/2009 13:17:16 Consider the Infinity Ref series speakers as they are a drop in fit for the F-150 trucks. The come in 2-way Comps and Coaxial designs, 2 or 4 ohm units. The thought here, Coaxials in back and Comps in front doors. If amped, use the 2-ohm version up front and the 4 ohm version in the rear pillars. Those would be my choice if I got the itch and the scratch to do so. As for a sub, one sub, 300-500 watts is plenty for this truck. Swez rjpdos on 07/28/2009 13:50:49 if i do not buy an amp quite yet...will the deck i listed above be enough to power the speakers you have mentioned? rjpdos on 07/28/2009 15:11:53 also i have been researching on crutchfield and am having trouble differentiating coaxial from 2 way comp speakers. there is plenty of reference series to choose from but i do not know how to break them down besides by size...also many people have said the Kappa series is much better... help please SMILE basshead396 on 07/28/2009 16:29:49 coaxial speaker are mid and tweet made together as one, comp are seperate mid and tweets and an external crossover for each side. Yes the kappas are better but cost a good bit more and to made them really sound good you need at least 75watt amp. The ref series is what I would recommend to run on the hu and you can add an amp later on. rjpdos on 07/28/2009 16:43:34 thanks! if i were to go with the ref series now and add an amp later, would i then need to upgrade my speakers? or would they just sounds louder and cleaner with more wattage? swez on 07/28/2009 16:47:30 This can be done in stages. The speakers will sound good off the HU. But when amped, they really come to life. (Louder and very clean) Swez basshead396 on 07/28/2009 17:19:25 That is what I did started on the hu then add ed an 85wch amp and it was like night an day, very good speaker choice to start out with. rjpdos on 07/28/2009 17:22:41 thanks so much! so should i go with 2 sets of these: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1086822CF/Infinity-Reference-6822cf.html?tp=105 or these: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1086832CF/Infinity-Reference-6832cf.html?tp=105 ? basshead396 on 07/28/2009 17:47:35 They will be fine but for better front staging I would go with the 6830cs in front and 6832cf in rear I think you will be very happy with the sound. rjpdos on 07/29/2009 09:25:39 bass thanks for the suggestion but the 6830cs is a little out of my price range. any other suggestions besides the 6830cs? swez on 07/29/2009 09:44:08 Have you tried shopping them on the net and E-bay? Crutch is a great place to buy, but they sell many things at full retail or modest discounts. A little shopping via google may bring your prices down enough to buy both items. Swez rjpdos on 07/29/2009 09:47:41 i found them for about $125 on ebay, with this set up comes a pair of tweeters that are not connected. where would i put the tweeters in my truck? im almost positive that i dont have any other slot besides the one in the door... rjpdos on 07/29/2009 09:51:03 and on top of that i would only be hooking up the speakers to my HU that is putting out 4x50 watts...wouldnt this be under powering the speakers? which is worse than over powering correct? rjpdos on 07/29/2009 09:55:59 the 6820cs are a little cheaper...would those work as well? Victor on 07/29/2009 13:38:15 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1086832CF/Infinity-Reference-6832cf.html?showAll=N&tp=105 these are very good speakers.. 2ohm load will extract good power from the HU amp.. and is definitely compatible... those pivoted tweeters will help you attain a good sound stage as well.. I would recommend these if you want to PnP in factory location... Victor... PS: Try looking for these on other sites , I am sure you will find a better deal... Check this http://www.bizrate.com/carspeakers/infinity-reference-6832cf-6-in.-x8-in.-2-way-speakers--pid1274217539/compareprices.html rjpdos on 07/29/2009 15:20:55 thanks victor! should i be getting these for the front and rear doors or should i get different speakers for the the two areas? Victor on 07/29/2009 15:30:13 get 2 pairs... rjpdos on 07/29/2009 15:37:40 thanks again for the help victor! rjpdos on 07/29/2009 15:54:17 couple quick question... with two sets of Infinity Ref 6832cf and a pioneer deh p650 HU (that i believe puts out 4x50) will the speakers be getting suffiecent power? also you said a two ohm load would extract good power from the HU but the speakers are listed as 4 ohms....what does this mean or how would i acquire the 2 ohm load with all 4 speakers? Victor on 07/29/2009 16:46:23 They are 2 ohm speakers... http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=REF6832CF&cat=MEL&ser=REF&Language=ENG&Country=US&Region=USA Read in Detail... rjpdos on 07/29/2009 17:12:52 ok...on crutchfield they are listed as 4... will the 4x50 be enough power for the 2 pairs? Victor on 07/29/2009 17:25:12 actually that pioneer HU mentioned puts out 18wrms per channel @ 4 ohms @ 14.4 V ... meaning something around 30wrms @ 2 ohms @ (13.4 V) .. that is the power those speakers will get per channel 50% under powered, but not bad .. can be better with a small 4 ch amp.... something like this one.. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19893 This amp will give you nice clean power ... its 80wrms per channel @ 2 ohms .... meaning you got some nice head room for crisp clean sound ... set the gains on that amp properly and its gonna give your speakers a new life ... Victor... basshead396 on 07/29/2009 18:57:06 You can get the 682.9cf from sonikelectronics for 79.95 free shipping. They are a very good company with a good rep. oh yea these are the kappas too. rjpdos on 07/30/2009 10:25:16 would the 682.9cf be better than the 6832cf? swez on 07/30/2009 14:02:03 I like this one as it has the outboard crossover and they are 2 ohm units for most power from a given outboard amp. Swez rjpdos on 07/30/2009 14:56:11 swez which one exactly are you talkin about? you didnt specify... swez on 07/30/2009 15:55:26 D'oh... asleep at the wheel here for a moment These: Infinity Kappa 682.9cf http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13967_Infinity+Kappa+682.9cf.html?gclid=CNOouYmo_psCFSANDQod5DoZAA Swez Victor on 07/31/2009 02:10:15 Yup, These kappa's are a better choice for your application, but these you will have to power with an external amp. Orelse there will be a lot of distortion if run directly on the HU ... Those speakers are 100wrms , and HU gives only 1/3 rd of that power to the speakers.. one needs to give atleast +/- 33% power of its rating, to any driver; to get it moving in the region it performs the best.
