as my statement above says, do you think that amp be my best match to put my sub at its fullest. its a 1 x 1200W RMS @ 1 Ohm Mono 1 x 600W RMS @ 2 Ohm Mono 1 x 500W RMS @ 4 Ohm Mono my sub is 1200 Watts Power Handling 600 Watts RMS Power Handling Dual 4-Ohm Voice Coils Replies (13) swez on 07/17/2009 05:46:44 You're good to go on this option and can even use a pair of those subs as this amp specs 1200 Wrms @ 1 ohm loads. The amp will deliver 600 Wrms @ 2 ohms. Good fit either way. Swez Dragracer51887 on 07/17/2009 08:19:03 i should have asked you these questions too. i am going to put them in my 1993 ford ranger supercab so the sub is going to sit directly behind my seat, i was wondering what you think the best tuning specs would be. any help would be greatly appreciated : ) Dragracer51887 on 07/17/2009 10:29:20 one more question should i use a ported box or sealed. i currently have a medium sized sealed and a small sealed box.if i use ported what Hrtz should i tune it too? swez on 07/17/2009 12:04:34 The sealed and ported specs are noted here: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_14062_MA+Audio+MA1208XL.html If you went ported, the tuning point would be 36-40 Hz. Also, your amp will need a Subsonic Filter to block out lows under 30-40 Hz. The MA Audio HK601 does have this filter and it's variable between 20-50 Hz. Swez Dragracer51887 on 07/17/2009 12:23:36 what kind of amp that would be compatible and best choice for what subwoofer i have that has the subsonice filter would u recommend? swez on 07/17/2009 13:45:02 The amp you have choosen is good for one/two MA sub. However, if you elected to step it up a notch, then this amp can handle a pair of those subs, sealed or ported. The amp has a SSI filter already, so no add ons are needed. It's up to your call and budget, which way to go. (Sealed or ported) Swez Dragracer51887 on 07/17/2009 14:23:54 ok last question i swear..lol..i thought i knew a little bit about subs up untill i got my sub in today and that went out the door....my question is...im gonna use parallel instead of series to get a 2ohm load..now i might explain it bad but just try to keep with me...there a total of 8 (4 positive + 4 negative-) connections for speaker wire now i did - to- then to the box and i did + to + and then to the box also, now there is still a total of 4 (2 + and 2-) still with no wires in them..i tried following the instructions it came with but i must be slow...lol...is that right? or did i mess something up? and if you could include a diagram for this that would be amazing....thanks for all your guys's help, we all really appreciate it...thanks : ) swez on 07/17/2009 18:01:59 I'm confused??? Are you saying the amp has 4 Pos and 4 Neg terminals or the sub does? Swez Dragracer51887 on 07/17/2009 18:52:41 the sub swez on 07/17/2009 19:11:39 Hum, that's interesting and I am taking a calculated/educated guess they used 4 Pos and 4 Neg to make it easier to wire up multiple subs. The other option is more rare, quad coils. We see those in Competition subs from time to time, but I don't think that applies to this sub. The thing is, without the recommended wiring diagram, I cannot tell you which terminals equate to coil A and B. (The remaining terminals are just jumpers for a 2nd woofer. Do you have a website link on your sub manual so I can look it up? Do you have access to an Ohmeter? That tool would make the job a snap. Swez Dragracer51887 on 07/17/2009 20:30:41 it says it is a competition sub. the website doesnt exist apparently, it says its www.maaudio.com but there is no website found, perhaps they shut their doors, i dont kno what ever the case is this is how i can best describe the setup, ++ -- -- . . ' ' ' ' ' SUB ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' -- -- ++ IF YOU COULD TELL ME WHICH WIRES FOR A PARALLEL AND SERIES SETUP THAT WOULD BE NICE. THANKS Dragracer51887 on 07/17/2009 20:31:57 THAT WASNT HOW I HAD IT.. I HAD THOSE DOTS IN A CIRCLE TO REPRESENT THE SUB BUT THATS HOW THE TERMINALS ARE ON EACH SIDE OF THE SUB.. 4 ON EACH SIDE swez on 07/18/2009 04:23:43 OK, that diagram makes enough sense to figure out what to do. ++ -- -- Coil A . . ' ' ' ' ' SUB ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' -- -- ++ Coil B Here's how to wire it down to a net 2 ohms: Coil A's + & - are wired to Coil B's + & -. (One pair is left unwired) Coil B's 2nd pair of + & - are wire to the amp outputs (the remaining pair of terminal) Does that compute? Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
