ok i have a few ? 1 15inch l7 or 3 10inch thurder 7500 the amp is gonna be zx 750.1 and second shold i run 1/0 or 4 guage wiring to the amp Replies (10) swez on 06/18/2009 11:55:46 A single 15" L7 will give you solid low end bass. The zx 750.1 draws a maximum current just under 80A's. If your battery is in the rear of the car like the Magnum, short #4 power and ground wires are good. If the battery is up front in the engine compartment, 1/0 gage will provide very low resistance at 20 feet and good for the amp as well. As for the right sub, use the 4+4 DVC version L7 for a net 2 ohm load. This is a good match to the amp mentioned. Swez PS Welcome to CK! 07chargedup on 06/18/2009 12:03:08 ok i was thinking 4 gauge would be plenty cause the bat right there in the trunk thanks hopefully this combo will pound i know my dual l7 12s pounded the hell out of my last car hit 147db easy but it was wired down to one ohm to much strain even wit alt upgrade so i think the one 15 will do me fine @ 2 ohms swez on 06/18/2009 12:19:11 Yes, it will pound out the bass and #4 wire is adequate. I believe your car has a stock 160A ALT. (Like the Magnum) You may not be able to upgrade the ALT on this package, but a H.O. Gel Cell battery may be useful if you note moderate light dimming with the amp dialed up. (750-1,000 CCA rated) As for the box, try the Daily Driver ported box design for your sub. The 6 cf coffin enclosure is big and very heavy. The huge box may change the handling characteristics on this car. Swez 07chargedup on 06/19/2009 00:50:22 ok so a cap wouldnt work do i need a second will any problem happen without bat swez on 06/19/2009 11:07:52 Caps won't help if we have chronic low voltage issues in the electrical system. Here's why... When we first start the engine, the ALT will deliver over 14.0 volts to recharge the battery and if a cap is used, there's 14 volts there too. As the battery charges up, the ALT voltage demand will drop too. Turn on a few accessories and soon, the charging system drops below 13.5 volts. (So does the stored energy in the Cap in use) When we dial up the amp for some serious bass, the ALT may not keep up with total demand and calls on the BAT to help make up the difference. Now, the actual voltage available may be about 12 volts, but lots of current. The Cap is still charging and expelling it charge, but only at reference voltage... about 12 volts. See the connections here? A Cap is only as good as the reference power supply can provide. Some guys will invest in a matching battery and have the pair wired in parallel for more current. The Aux battery feeds the amp only. The main Bat helps the AUX BAT too, but both are needing to be refilled more often by the ALT under heavy use. Some guys will used a Battery Isolator Kit and dual BATs. This allows the ALT to top off the main starter battery and then switch to filling the AUX BAT as needed. This is the best method and commonly used in large RV and bigger watercraft systems. Comments? Swez 07chargedup on 06/19/2009 20:21:06 so with that ste the L715 and kicker 750 will i need a second battery 07chargedup on 06/19/2009 21:10:39 ok last ? on this topic i fould a kenwood exclon x1200 today at my local shop should i get that one or the kicker not sure swez on 06/20/2009 05:41:30 You may not need a 2nd battery depending on the amp used and how hard you push it. Another guy I worked with had a 06 Magnum and used a JL Slash series 1000.1. and tried several subs too. He had severe light dimming issues only when he pressed the limits. The Kenwood Excelon X1200M would be a good match for your L7 and probably cheaper then the Kicker 750.1. If you went that route, you will likely have to use #2 gage power and ground or larger. The additional wattage will only be about +2dB more bass and strain your electricals even more too. Again, it depends on how you use your gear. http://www.gilgool.com/show_product_details.jsp?cid=73786&brandtype=0 This amp? Swez 07chargedup on 06/21/2009 12:02:44 Ok one more ? im undecided on which amp i have 4 choices kicker 750.1 mtx thunder 1000d kenwood excelon 1200.1 or a clarion apx 1500 not sure wit the clarion i have a claron hu dv 485 i love it but not sure on there amps Its the cheapest found it for 200 bucks and the kenwood is the most expensive decided ima run streetwire #4 guage wire swez on 06/21/2009 12:43:18 Frankly, I would go for the Kicker amp as they are very reliable, have very good reliability and take a real beating from Pro SPL guys. They also tend to spec out higher then rated power output. Number 2 on the list would be the MTX for similar reasons. MTX has been around a long time and except for a few lower end parts of the line, very solid products here too. Good choice on wires and hardware. You may pay a bit more for that brand, but they are good products too. Hope that helps, Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
