Hey guys, new here, but it looks like a lot of people on the site know what they're doing. I have an issue - was installing a new Pioneer deck (model DEH - P3100UB) in my '98 cherokee (no laughs please) to replace my old Pioneer DEH-2100. Well, the old harness would not fit the new deck, so I cut the wires and reconnected them to my new deck's harness by matching colors. Well after getting everything hooked up, I can't get power to my new deck. I'm sure I have wrong wires connected, but thought I could just match colors since I was replacing a Pioneer with a Pioneer. Any help would be appreciated. Thx Replies (4) swez on 06/13/2009 11:59:12 In theory, that would usually work. But, one misplace wire, a blown fuse or a bad ground is enough to make the job go south. A 12 volt test lamp or DMM would be most helpful in diagnosing this one. Do you have either handy? Here are some basic tests you can do: 1. Check the fuse in the fuse panel marked radio and make sure it's good or just replace it. 2. The Yellow wire on your HU is a +12 CONSTANT supply voltage. Even when the key is out of the IGN, there's power on that line to ground. (Holds memory and clock functions) 3. The Red wire is your ACC/IGN/RUN line. It only has power when the key is in ACC/IGN/RUN mode. This is often fused too. Check that fuse and wire for voltage to ground. 4. Here are the factory color codes for all wiring related to the radio. Make sure they are attacked to the proper colors on the HU and that all wires are crimped properly. http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/stereodetail/1212.html Good luck, Swez PS Factory wire grounds may not be the best for many aftermarket HU's. I often suggest a dedicated ground to the firewall or floorpan and that's bare metal too. These never fail and if outboard amps are used, no noise issue to deal with either. basshead396 on 06/13/2009 12:49:00 That sounds dead on swez I was going to suggest running a dedicated ground. If you haven"t been using one you are giong to love the front usb mine has one and I don"t even play cds anymore . I have found that it is better to copy music on wma or acc you get more files and the total sound quality is better than mp3. humphrey0 on 06/14/2009 07:00:28 Great guys. I appreciate your help. Got tied up yesterday - I am going to try your advice today. ttocs on 06/14/2009 10:23:12 I would suspect a bad fuse myself, did you make any sparks when you cut the old wires ONE AT A TIME? It happens. When I suspect a bad fuse I do not even bother lookin in the manual. There are actually 2 fuses for the radio and the constant power is often tapped off another circuit such as the dome lights. I can't tell you haw many times I have found a blown fuse in a completely unrelated circuit that when replaced fixed my problem. It will also take less time to just start on one side fo the fusebox and pull and check all 10-15 fuses one at at time then it does to get the manual and and try to figure out what page the fuse crap is on, then try and figure out which circuit it MIGHT be, then try and locate that one specific fuse in the box. Don't forget the fusebox by the battery also. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
