I just bought a 2003 Suzuki GSX-R 600. This is my 2nd motorcycle, and since I bought the first one I have been determined to put a stereo on it. I was initially going to fiberglass in some rings where the frame sliders go, but decided this would be a bad idea in the event that the bike falls over. That and I'm not sure how they would look on the side of the bike. So I decided to go more practical and mount them near the gauges somewhere, this way I can at least hear them while driving. Unfortunately, there is almost no room to put them. ADVICE NEEDED: 1) Spearkers: I'm looking for some decent 5.25"/4" component speakers. Sealed back would be nice so I don't have to build an enclosure. Weather resistance is not an issue, since this is mainly a show/weekend cruiser. As much as I'd love to avoid the 4" speakers, it may be my best option for the amount of room I don't have. 2) Amplifier: I'm thinking a very efficient 100 W RMS amp small enough to fit under the rear seat. The generator on the bike produces about 30 amps at 14+ volts. 3) Battery: The stock battery is 120CCA, and I've seen some aftermarket ones rated at 180CCA. Anyone know where I might be able to find a higher rated motorcycle size battery? Thanks all, it's good to be back! -Ian- Replies (2) swez on 04/5/2009 13:26:10 Tall order for this project Ian. Most guys just buy a windshield/dash kit that has install room for speakers and a HU. (Fairing?) Using efficeint speakers would not require an outboard amp at all. An 18-20 watt per channel HU with high efficiency speakers would be all you really need here. (5-1/4"Coaxials should do the trick. Comments? Swez cybersailor420 on 04/5/2009 14:42:18 Yea, I am going to try to fit them under the windshield, but on "crotch rockets" there is pretty much zero extra room, without blocking the gauges. I'm going to get a bigger windshield and see if that helps. It's more of a wind deflector than a shield... The reason for the amp is that I will be running this off my ipod, so no power there! So if you guys have any ideas on specific equipment, please let me know! Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
