Welcome to CK!

That's a huge box and if using 3/4" wood and a divider panel between the subs, the net internal airspace will be about 3.5 cf/chamber. However, you are close on the internal air space/sub, but way off on the ports. Port noise and sub cone instabilty will result at high power levels with the ports used not.

This box is not properly ported for these subs and damage to the subs at high SPL levels is likely in time. Each chamber should have 2 ports, 4" Dia x 11.0" long. That would match the Ultimate SPL BASS specs recommended by Bahn.

Here are the box specs for the Bahn AWxxxxQ series:

Does your amp have a subsonic filter feature available?

yea man my amp does have a subsonic feature on it, but it's all turned down. both are sub are briged and the amp is already cross over. so i need bigger ports, ok. and also i heard their free air woofer.. does that mean the magnet is supposed to be inside the box or out?

Yes, larger ports are needed as per specs noted earlier.

Free air means the speaker can be used w/o a box. In this case, you have a box and the ports are not correct. The small and short ports used now, run the risk of damaging the subs with over excursion problems at high SPL levels.

The larger the box, the less air pressure there is inside the box to hold the sub mechanicals in proper control and lower their power handling ability by almost 50%.

For now, set your subsonic filter to 40 Hz. Once the ports are changed, you can reset the filter to 30-35 Hz.

thanks man i changed the ports, but now will the bass kick hard if i have the subs with the magnet in side the box or reves them with the magnet outside the box?

Hey guitarexpert89,

Here are the recommended enclosure and port specs for your Bahn subs: The "Ultimate SPL" version is most similar to your current box.

http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/037/037AW1000Q.PDF

If you elected to mount the sub w/ baskets out, the air space per chamber will be 0.2 cf/chamber larger than if the baskets were mounted inside the chambers. That would not change the sonic characteristics in either mounting method to be concerned about. (3.5 vs 3.3 cf/chamber)

The recommended ports: (2 ports) 4" dia x 11" Long per sub chamber. The sub tuning frequency will be between 32-35 Hz. Set your SSF filter at 30 Hz. (4 ports in all)

Yes, with these adjustments, these subs will deliver deep and solid lows. The recommended wattage per sub is 700 watts RMS per sub for the AW1200Q. I would recommend more like 500 watts RMS per sub for this design as the subs will last longer and still sound very strong.

Any questions/comments?

thanks man.now can you help me out with this. what do i need so my system can be heared from 2 or more blocks away? i want more sub sonic characteristics. as in i want to be rolling down the street and you can hear my subs subing as im still coming. what do i need for that? more amp power? bigger subs or what?

Try cracking your trunk lid open a few inches. That will allow more bass to escape outside your trunk.

hey man wuts sup? well i just got a audiobahn a3201q amplifier and i wanted to know if u can help me by telling me whats the real rms on that amp, because they told me that its 2500 watts rms. and if so what will be the biggest, loudest and strongest subwoofer's that amp could handle?

swez on 12/5/2009 05:38:28
Hey dude,

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-P00gA8sDvir/p_037A3201Q/Audiobahn-A3201Q.html

That amp would be a decent fit for your subs pretty well if the subs are wired properly. (Each sub coil A&B in series, both subs in parallel for a net 4 ohm load and the amp bridged Mono = 4 ohm load) Like this:

http://crutchfield.custhelp.com/rnt/rnw/img/enduser/2Ch_2-4ODVC.jpg

This amp puts out more like 800 watts RMS @ 4 ohms when bridged. That's a safe range for your subs as they won't last very long if you powered them much above 500 RMS per sub. It also has a subsonic filter.

Did you install the recommended ports yet? If not, these subs will be toast in no time.
