Hi, im planning on building a show car with numerous electronics. Can anyone let me know the proper set up i should use for the electrical system: i.e alternator, battery, and wires. I currently have a 1984 Chevy Camaro IROC Z with a 100A alternator. I want to put in 2 Kicker L7 15" 2Ohm subs: The Specs for the subs are: # Power Handling (RMS) : 1000 Watts # Power Handling (MAX) : 2000 Watts # Sensitivity : 89.4dB # Frequency Response : 18Hz~100Hz The amp im planning on getting is:Power Acoustik Ov15500d Mono # 4ohm Rms: 1700w # 2ohm Rms: 2500w # 1ohm Rms: 3200w # 1ohm stable # Freq Resp: 15 Hz150 Hz # S/n Ratio: 100 Db # Thd: 0.5% # System Distress Indicator # Inputs Sensitivity: 200mv8v i currently have a fosgate p8004 amp that will be used for tweeters and mids. The specs are: # Amplifier Type: Multi-Channel # RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 100W x 4 # THD at 4-Ohm RMS Power: 0.08% # Bridged RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 400W x 2 # Speaker Level Inputs: no # Preamp Outputs: yes # Built-In Crossovers: HP/LP # Bass Boost: 0 - 18 dB # Frequency Response: 20-20,000 Hz # Signal to Noise Ratio: 80 dB The system will also include a flipscreen touch navigation/dvd player, keyless autostart, possibly underglow(not sure yet), and some glow under the seats. Plexiglass over the subs with neon glow illuminating the subs at night. Im thinking about getting an extra battery and two 150+Amp alternators. These alternators will be connected to the battery for the electronics and i will use the stock alternator for regular system functions. I would use 1/0 gauge wire from the battery to alternators and amps and would have a CAP. Is this a correct setup? Or does anyone have any recommendations for a better configuration? I would like to get the best bang for the buck. Also, this car must be used as a daily driver too. Im looking for a combo of SPL and Quality. Im pretty firm on the 2008 subs though.if i need to supply any more info, please let me know. Thanx!! If you plan on doing dual alts, look for a mechman or DC power 240A/250A Units because they do around 150A at idle. A few batteries hidden in the back will help things as well, while running 12v you want everything ran together so two 240A alts + 2-3 batteries pushing all electronics. -Drew ** http://www.mechman.com/alt.htm ** http://www.dcpowerinc.com/ infamousmusic on 03/27/2009 23:37:51 Ok, so thats two 240A alts along with the stock alt and 2 additional batteries? Should those be connected in series or parallel? should i also have a cap and are there any batteries that you recommend for this system? newB on 03/28/2009 02:05:22 Dont use the cap, ditch the stock alt, and all your bats should be deep cycle and wired in parallel More questions? GRIN -Drew swez on 03/28/2009 09:12:57 Agreed, ditch the cap unless it has a digital voltage read out and can be used as a termination point for your sub amp. Even a 10 Farad Cap will have minimal impact on your sub amp current draw demands. Drew's suggestion of dual matching ALT's is a good option. One will power your car and the RF 4-channel amp just fine. The other ALT and BAT will be dedicated to the sub amp only. Chances are very good that you will only need 2 matched Deep Cycle Batteries, (750 CCA's should do the job) for this rig. One under the hood where the stock Bat is now and the other can be mounted in the back and used as a current buffer for the sub amp. If the sub amp draws too much current, a 2nd buffer BAT can be added later. Comments? Swez PS The power supply system used will depend on how hard you push the subs and amp. Long test tones are the most demanding for SPL Comps. If your secondary ALT can maintain 13.5 volts or higher when the bass is pounding hard, you've got a solid system. If the voltage drops below 12.5 volts during test tones, amp power will also drop. So far, a very good plan here and you have done a very good job outlining this project on paper. infamousmusic on 03/28/2009 15:57:22 THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE HELP!!! I will start narrowing down prices now that i know exactly what to look for. I will keep you updated on the project and let u know of the outcome GRIN infamousmusic Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
