I have a Kicker 350.4 amplifier and it was working fine until the other night when I was riding around and it started beeping and the protection light started flashing. It only beeped a couple of times, but the protection light is still flashing. I've unhooked the speakers, power, ground, remote, jacks, in various ways and it still does it. I called Kicker and they told me to send it in but I was just wondering if there were any tips out there before I spent the money to send it to them. You did the right thing to test the amp again with all speakers disconnected. If the protect circuits are still on, it needs service from a quailified Tech. While the amp is being serviced, it would be wise to check each speaker and speaker lines for shorts or open circuits. Here, the proper tool is a ohmeter. If there is a shorted speaker or damaged wiring, the meter will point you to the problem child circuit(s) and more diagnostics are needed til you find the "flier" that's out of range. What speakers are you running off this Kicker amp? Make and model numbers please. The more you can tell us up front, the better we can direct your efforts to find the root cause of the amps' failure. FYI: 1. Most car speakers should read above 3 ohms. If you see any that read below 1 ohm, there's a short in that channel of the system. 2. If the meter does not show anything, this indicates an open circuit. Further tests are needed to determine the problem. 3. If testing component type speaker with passive crossover networks, your readings may vary, depending on how complex the crossovers are. Comments/Questions? Swez 2keez on 03/15/2009 11:48:21 I'm only running two 15 Watt Horn Speakers. They're M50H-5" Indoor-Outdoor Speakers, 15 watts input, 20 watts peak, 200-15,000 Hz frequency range, 8 ohm impedence. Another thing I didn't mention is the cd player was almost all the way down, I was on the cell phone so the volume was only on maybe 2 at the most. Also I'm looking into building a custom ported box for my truck can you offer any tips on tuning it? I was thinking something around maybe 38 hz. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
