If you have 2 dvc subs 4 or 2 ohm what ohm are they when wired in parallel?, and what reading does this give the amp? Replies (8) swez on 03/12/2009 21:17:12 Need more info here talon. What are the make and model #'s of the subs and amp in question? Swez talon_tsi on 03/12/2009 22:50:23 the amp is a 16-MCD1000 and the subs are kicker cvr 12's dvc i have not taken them out of the sub box so i am not sure if they are 2 or 4 ohm swez on 03/13/2009 08:13:13 The Kicker Comp VR's come in 2+2 and 4+4 DVC versions. Ideally, yours are the 4+4 version as when they are wired all parallel, this amp delivers over 1000 watts RMS @ 1 ohm loads. (600 watts @ 2 ohms) Do you have access to an ohmeter? If so, you can measure the subs and see what the net ohmic number is from the box as wired. Are there one or two sets of speaker wires coming out of this box? Swez talon_tsi on 03/14/2009 16:44:30 there is one set of wires coming out of the box, so i am guessing that they are not wired in parallel. If i wire them in parallel, what load will that make the speakers, and what load will it make the amp read? thanks swez on 03/14/2009 19:38:48 If only one pair of wiring is coming out of the box, all the wiring was done inside the box. The easy way to tell how they are wired, is with an ohmeter. If the meter reads just below 1 or 4 ohms, these are 4+4 DVC's http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp?submitted=true&woofer_qty=2&woofer_imp=4 If the meter reads 0.5, 2 or 8 ohms, these are 2+2 DVC's http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp?submitted=true&woofer_qty=2&woofer_imp=3 Your ideal target is 1 ohm for most power off that Memphis amp. Swez swez on 03/14/2009 20:34:26 Just a thought here, if you don't have an ohmeter handy, drop by a local shop and ask if one of their techs can check the sub box wiring out for you. If you need wire or hardware, buy it there and "ask for a favor" and see what comes back. If you catch them on a slow day, somebody will probably help you. If they are busy, go back another time when they have time and "TIP" the Installer for his time and expertise. This will give you knowledge, peace of mind and confidence to move to the next step... installing and optimizing your rig. That's the end goal here. Comments? Swez COFFEE talon_tsi on 03/15/2009 15:13:14 well thanks for all the help, i will see what i am working with and go from there. Thanks! swez on 03/15/2009 23:02:44 Good luck and let the Pro's help as needed. If we guess wrong, the repair bill is not pretty or cheap. Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
