Ford factory HU... satellite ready Q's

I'm trying to get a finger on the Ford factory satellite ready HUs. They have a "sat" button on the face, but the ones I find on Ebay say that they require a separate tuner.

I'd like to keep a factory HU for the stealth factor (had too many aftermarket HUs stolen), and would love to have Sat capability, but why the need for an external tuner? That's true of any HU.

Here's what I want. I have a 98 F150 with the AM/FM tape deck. I want a later CD/sat HU but I'm wondering what I need. I guess what makes me curious is; what makes the factory HU "sat ready" if it still requires an external tuner?

all radios use an external satalite tuner. When you see the size of it you will know why it is seperate, some people do not want it and it gives them the chance to sell something else. This tuner will alse need a seperate subscription, yes thats right even more money per month even if you are already a subscriber.

Ok... wiser to go aftermarket sat receiver then I think.
