The real answer is yes- you can build a box without MDF panels strong enough to hold those woofers. But, some techniques must be used like using mdf and rope framework, proper resin/hardener ratios and drying environments. I would NOT recommend starting with a subwoofer box for your first glass work. I started with small interior pieces, moved to midbass pods and will not do a sub box lol

A proper Fiberglass Sub box will take several days, and upwards of 200$ in resin, gloves, brushes, hardener, mat, mask and be prepared to throw away your clothes at the end hahaha GRIN

Agreed, glassing is not a project to jump into on a large scale until one masters the techniques on a smaller scale. We have one article from Eric Cooper that outlines the basics and has links to more tips and videos about glassing.

One thought that may help, find a local shop that does glassing work and ask if you can observe the fabricator in action. If you are lucky, he may let you get some hands on experience with the process and then descide if this is something you'd like to pursue on your own or not.

This is not a 1 day project! It takes several hours to cure each layer and then add another. Finishing it off to a level where it can then be primed and painted will take a lot of time.

Think it over carefully before diving in,

Longmate,

Mind copy/pasteing your post and start a new one with your name on it? Just hit the "Ask Question" tab at the far left of the page and add your post.

It would be most helpful to know what type of vehicle you have, make and model # of the equipment used and we'll take it from there. We'll have lots of questions initially, but it all works out well later in the process.
