Looking for a good set of 12"s, anyone heard of these two particular subs? Good, bad? Suggestions?

Look into the DC lvl 3, its cheaper and in my opinion will out preform those two, especially for the price.

Hey Ender,

What do you see as the ultimate goal in this new install on the Vette?

Are you looking for a modest Daily Driver or something geared to a Street Rod pounding bass system?

Was looking at the stock and H.O. ALT's for a 5.7L, (350 CID) engine package and see the stock versions are 35/60 A's at full output. As we move into the H.O. racing versions, 140 +A's versions are needed if you are shooting for 1000 watts or a tad higher. Are you willing/able to go that route? (The higher the output, the more $$$ you'll pay)

Yeah, I've already made arrangements to have a 200a alternator put in the car, assuming I can't have my stock one "spooled" up to around 200amps.

Street rod pounding bass sounds good to me!

thanks NewB, I'll take a look at those.

NewB! I looked at those subs and they look well rounded, small enclosure too! But I was unable to find a specific model number so I could search around for a price. ;x

That would be the Level 3 subs from DC Labs. Their web page shows direct contacts and distributors they use for selling:

http://www.dcsoundlab.com/contact.html

These subs are 4+4 DVC's, so the amp used will need to be 1 ohm stable and able to put out 1000-1200 watts RMS @ 1 ohm loads.

Gotta love the small sealed space they can work in too. Most subs in this category are SPL performance level. If they are built as well as I have read/seen them on You Tube, you're in for a real SPL treat.

The prices are not posted online, but you will find that rusty has the best customer service around and will return your email very quickly and answer any questions you may have.

DC Sound Lab is where i get all my custom woofers built, and the lvl 4 XL are the woofers we used to bass race 150+ db

Keep us updated GRIN

I sent an e-mail over to Rusty about prices and also if he's aware if some of their distributor's ship out of state since there are no dealers in my state so I'll be waiting to hear back from him? Any other advice, experience on 12"s?

Ender,

I would take newB up on his suggestion as he's been doing some pretty deep work with DC custom sub designs and enclosures for some time now. If newB says DC Level 3's are the way to go, I'd take that to the bank.

Yes, Alpine's Type X is a solid sub and so are the RF's. But they are not the only players out there with solid products that deliver.

Thanks Swez GRIN

I've been talking to Rusty about being a full time woofer builder over the summer, and am writing up a proposal now and will likely end up teaching a class on system design, box design, and woofer building.

course would be a few weeks of theory, week or two on box designs and students doing their designs then a final week or two building DC subs. Rusty would be giving me DC secret woofer training 101 and sell me unassembled drivers. GRIN

sry to jump off topic- thanks swez for the support I'm high confident in the product and they are worth every penny, especially with Rusty's Customer Service Record.

Awesome, I'll pick up a pair. I have about 1.2kw RMS @ 1ohm for these things and around 1.5cu.ft of air space, off course I can always make it smaller for the .75-1cu.ft recommendation, any specific instructions you thought brought them to life? .80cu.ft w/ polyfill? anything? I'll be picking up a pair of them friday.

swez on 02/26/2009 16:38:57
Great idea! Am sure if you need any fabrication tips, Drew will give the path and support as needed. I'll still be here for the systems integration and troubleshooting, but not too much on box building.

BTW, you have come a long way Drew. When you first came to CK, I saw raw talent waiting for a breakout. We had a void in high end performance sub enclosure designs. Kittle and Victor were doing a good job, but their time on the site was limited. That changed when Drew started his enclosure design and building blitz. He took the ball and ran it hard until successes were piling up all over the place.

Anyway, I trust Drew's judgement and he's a valuable player on this site and will be so with DC Sounds if/when the opportunity comes. Good show my boy... go out there and make each shot count. CLAP

Swez HAPPY
